I've definitely had a few sets where I wasn't paying much attention and thought I was doing pretty well only to realize I was dead last in score. I think most of the lobby and I all play pretty well in general. My main observation about some of the best players is that they are just really good at preemptively attacking you if you are near them to reduce risk. Meanwhile, even if I can do shortcuts and take tight turns, I can't split my focus between driving and attacking and will often end up worse off when I try to attack people behind me even if I do manage to hit them.
