I don't even like DR2 but I think the motives were pretty good. The despair disease was just giving them a glimpse of their original personalities, and the starvation was a bluff that could've been called out (the teacher is not allowed to harm the students and this could have been deduced).
As for V3 I also disagree, the time limit was to let the audience know that this is not Junko's game, and the Necronomicon has some disturbing implications that impact harder in Chapter 6. As for the card key it just plays into Kokichi's plan more.

It’s insanely good as a work of horror, I don’t think anything in fiction has ever scared me as much as chapter 6. There’s things like the truman show but the difference here is that the characters can *only* exist in the context of a brutal killing game, by the will of unknowable godlike entities. The way they had that explicltly spelled out to them was terrifying, especially after they struggled so hard to survive and cope with not as dire but still really fucking miserable revelations and sacrifices. We can all laugh it off because of course shuichi and the others are just lines of code, but maybe the ayy lmaos on the higher plane of existence view us no differently and there’s no way we’ll ever know.
