That was some niche limited release well after the fact.
Also it needed a good Mario at launch instead of luigi's gay mansion and super Mario janitor edition later in life.
Double dash was a wonky concept as well. Stands to reason that they abandoned that whole concept and never returned to it.
It's odd because it was actually really creative in how it handled the big Nintendo properties, but they were generally bad ideas. The one series they played it safe was smash bros, and as a result is probably the defining Nintendo game on the console.
Zelda aged well as an artstyle, but the game itself wasn't that great.
