That’s what it should have looked like in the first place. I understand why the environments were cut down a bit graphically (since it was their first attempt at an open world game and they had little idea what they were doing) but small stuff like that could have looked like the bottom pic.

the issue with 3d pokemon games is not the tech, it's how they lack any sense of art direction at all
that shit is the equivalent of ue5 lightning. if it wasn't for the pokemon you could mistake it for literally any mobile game released in the past decade.
