Final thoughts on this? Is it a worthy succesor? A good step in the franchise's future? Or should they just keep pumping out remakes?

My thoughts.
Legitally, it was fine. 12 hours for the first playthrough was fine, it didn't feel short for ending 1. The problem is that the game gets exposed in ng+.
The final portion of the game is literally "Go to Hinako's home, now get out of Hinako's home, now get back to Hinako's home." in unskippable arena style fights. I wanted to replay it and learn more lore so bad but these portions of the game just completely killed my enthusiasm. The scope was bigger than the assets they put into it.
Then, I have some minor nitpicks on the writing. Besides Rinko (who isn't THAT much worse than Hinako anyway), nobody really seems like that bad of a person to cause Hinako to crash out like this. Like, the dad doesn't even hit her once, it's just yelling. The mother is protective, but enabling his behaviour passively. Sakuko just doesn't want to lose her friend? And Shu drugged her but only because some meme God forced him to, he was never an asshole to her. His dungeon didn't even have notes where we could get his thoughts and true feelings out of him like with the other girls, and I'd say he was certainly a central part of the story. It would have sufficed leaving something like "uugh I want to fuck Hinako, make her mine, those titties..." like a normal teenager boy, but instead it was just petty stuff like her breaking his toys. What an asexual fag imagine not wanting to tap pic rel. Then he doesn't even appear in the true end. Hell, the whole cast is left behind and it's just about her and the Fox Husbando.
There is no original sin that starts the events. No cult scheming behind this suffering. It's just rebeling teenage histeria enhanced by some Gods internal battle for power over the village.
Artistically/Visually, it's great. The main appeal of the game. The combat it's average like any other SH entry. Game is piss easy because you get a million items and weapons every level. I never felt that I had to scavenge resources or take care of my weapons durability.

I beat the game twice, It was okay. The game shouldn't be called SH nor is the game scary or disturbing. The combat was the worst part of the game especially towards the end since it really feels like I'm playing an action game instead of survival horror. I like the music and setting. The story is alright, I probably would have a better impression of it if again, the game wasn't called silent hill.

When I played it, went in hoping for an awesome Silent Hill game.
What I got was Onimusha. Also the fact that it just brings up the past made no sense. Perhaps the next Silent Hill will be a knight in medieval times and be mad that the royals are making them fight. Then at the end his family will not like him for all the killing.
Second play through you can get two endings. One where you are a deserter and the other is when you become a monk.
A third playthrough you will become the royal and then hang yourself when you find out how shitty it is.
Then for the secret ending. Someone will launch a cow at your forces and then your commander will tell you to go home.

best SH game since the Team Silent era and also better than 4

Mixed. I liked the setting, atmosphere and even story.
But I guess I just don't like the horror genre, so I ended up dropping it at around 5-6 hours.

I unironically enjoyed it despite the questionable combat. I was around for Homecoming and Downpour, this is not on the same level of disappointment. But it is a bit disappointing still.

The Team Silent games are a little 'campy' in their own right but pull a lot of punches conceptually and maintain a verisimilitude that ought to be a series staple.
Unfortunately no other studio that's ever taken a whack at the franchise has ever "gotten it," most certainly not the hacks behind f.
