For most stories, your protagonist shouldn't be geared towards what's average. Your protagonist should be geared towards greatness. Videogames give you unlimited freedom to create an idealized protagonist. If your protagonist is female and the natural customer base for your game is male, she should a woman who's idealized for men in almost all cases.

What's an example of a story where your protagonist and his girlfriend shouldn't be idealized? Imagine if you wanted to tell a story about a drug addict. He probably shouldn't be Sylvester Stallone, and his girlfriend probably shouldn't be Trish Stratus.
