Which one of these retards should I take along?
Also, which one has the more interesting story?

Edwin is really entertaining, no idea why anyone would take that abomination over him. He also gets turned into a cute woman so you can rape him without being gay.

Edwina

Edwin is broken. The other one is an ugly nigger that's bad as a unit. The choice couldn't be anymore obvious.

>Edwin is broken.
what's broken about edwin? (besides having +1 spellslot)
Anonymous No.723117754 [Report] >>723119189
>>723117303 (OP)
for continuity, probably prefer edwin
if this is just BG1 then neither has a real story (no BG1 companion has a real story. they're kinda just there)
in terms of combat efficacy, edwin is one of the best mages in the entire game. in the original game, dynaheir was pretty bad since she lost both conjuration and enchantment spells. in the enhanced edition this is "fixed" so that she only loses enchantment spells. granted there are some pretty good spells there, but this is still a lot less devastating than in the original

Do you have any idea who good having +1 spellslot is? Even if you make yourself a mage, Edwin will still be better.
Anonymous No.723117897 [Report]

If you're playing unmodded, they don't really have stories. Edwin is mechanically superior and has funnier sounds imo, although Dynaheir is not that bad.

you could get the spell slot doubling ring at friendly arms inn for infinite counter spells that item is pretty much cheating though

it is pretty fucking strong, given that mages are gated mostly by the number of spell slots available to them. this is especially true in the early game but even later at worst it gives you more casts of magic missile
of course the base game is easy enough that you can unga bunga through almost every encounter with a party of archers/slingers and the occasional cleric spell use here or there so it's kind of a moot point. but if we're talking objective rankings then yeah it's broken

Yes, it is. Specially in low level D&D 2.0. Mages have like 2 spells there. Edwin has more than 33% spells than you.

It's not broken. A few extra spells in BG1 is not broken. It usually makes zero fucking difference, in fact. Occasionally it might save you a reload on a hard encounter. Is that broken? No.

The whole game is broken, dummy-kun. That does not make broken stuff not broken. Maybe it gets obfuscated by the sea of brokenness.
Anonymous No.723119024 [Report] >>723119115
>>723118806
Not really. Here are some actually broken things:
>wands
>exploding potions
>pickpocketing vendors with le potions
>various tutu/EE additions, for example dual-wielding half-orc barbarians reaching 24-25 str in BG1, which was designed for regular human fighters with 19 str max and only one weapon
>arrows of dispelling
Edwin's +1 spells amulet is nowhere near broken level.

Fine. I never dwelled too deep in this game. Your list sounds like a stuff people more invested in the game knows. I admit I am casual at this game, and Edwin for me was broken.

literally the opposite, for continuity Dynaheir is the correct one

Neither of them have a story, it's BG1, BG2 is the one with companion questlines. But Edwin is overpowered, so him

Yes, that's the point, it happens shortly before the game starts and she's part of your party alongside Minsc, Imoen, Jaheira and Khalid
Anonymous No.723119406 [Report] >>723119474
>>723119317

At least Edwin shows up in Athkatla.

Well this explains why the "canon" party gets caught by the edgy moron. You have to be an imbecile to run that party.
Anonymous No.723119509 [Report]
>>723119387
she gets captured alongside of these retards yes, probably.
It's the canon group at the end of the game i guess, but technically all companions travel with gorions warden at some point - which is the reason why edwin knows you in the first place.

It's not a retarded question ya shitfingerer
why the fuck would i take along dynaheir if i know that she fuckin bites it
Sure at the end it's the "correct" group, but only then really. For all the other times it could as well be edwin, who clearly recognizes you in BG2.
Anonymous No.723119752 [Report] >>723119832
Minsc is overrated.

You can do whatever you want. We are talking about what's canonical, which is a strictly objective matter in this case.

>>723119656
>who clearly recognizes you in BG2
He doesn't, or he pretends not to at least
Regardless you're retarded because from a continuity point of view Dynaheir takes priority over Edwin, even if you use him for a time, you should still put her in your party so she can be there to die in BG2

Companions don't really have any story or quests in BG1. Canonically Dynaheir is with your party going into BG2 but BG2 also has every recruitable BG1 character that appears remember you so it's kind of assumed you traveled with everyone at one point or another.

Edwin gets some extra spells due to his special amulet but it doesn't really matter much since you can rest at practically any time to restore spell slots and nothing that can ambush you while resting in BG1 is ever actually dangerous so there's no reason not to spam rest constantly. He also conflicts with Minsc while Minsc and Dynaheir are a pair and while you can separate them with some fucking about with their positioning it's a bit of a pain in the ass, so if you want to take Minsc along Dynaheir is the easier of the two to make it work.

They made her easily killable though so I'm not sure. They would never set a black character up like that these days.

You can piece together some of their background stories from the little stuff that happens, either by who they dislike or what they say in the beginning. A few characters do have quests. I think Coran has the most with 2.
Anonymous No.723124667 [Report]
Definitely Edwin. Dynaheir sucks.
