She's a complex character for her short screen time. Evil, manipulative, petty, but she's also found true love in someone, a nice contrast. She's also intelligent enough to distrust the Doctor and, cleverly, make him play by her own rules when agreeing to a deal. She always comes out on top, and her hands are clean as spring water. You can ABSOLUTELY make a woman look like a mom while still being sexually attractive. As long as you aren't shit at character design you can simply choose to accentuate maternal aspects of her appearance while avoiding things that strongly detract from sex appeal.

Body types aside, moms tend to have much more modest hairstyle and clothes, as well as a more pear-like body type (not necessarily fat, but with wider post-pregnancy hips). Other age/mature related accesories like glasses, larger purses, hats, and less revealing clothes are all things that can contribute to a 'motherly look'.

I think the way she died really highlights an important point about her character. She obviously wanted to get rid of Andrew and Ashley, but not in a way that drew too much attention to herself or required her to get her hands dirty. Meanwhile, the siblings had a much more hands-on approach and weren't so stupid as to not realize they were in pressed for time.
Manipulating people only gets you so far, especially when you're dealing with two people who hate your guts and need to get rid of you ASAP. They obviously wouldn't fall for Renee's lies, and that's when she lost.
