I played every noteworthy shitcast game and even achievements hunted most of them.m in retroachievements .
They’re all shit. You hype this piece of shit up as le quirky home arcade and its ass. Ps2 mogs it hard. Even the gamecube is better.

Its honestly surreal to me how much worse things have gotten over the past 5 years since COVID. I cant even get my friends to come over for a BBQ when Im providing the food and drink. Over the years I've come to the opinion that the Saturn was better. However, the Dreamcast is still awesome.

Hard disagree. Saturn was Sega sliding deep into irrelevancy. Dreamcast was a glorious return to form but by then it was too late. They were on borrowed time.

Genesis and Dreamcast is peak Sega.

i think the reason why is seems so good to us and so bad to them is because back then games were something left for us to figure out. this combined with how fast they were changing and how novel concepts could actually get funding from a large publisher, made them really interesting.

now every game is made for everyone on the entire planet and plays itself. this isnt a difficulty related complaint, moreso how everything is immediately made clear to you. youre experiencing it. games are better toys than they are novels/movies IMO. thats why kids like minecraft and, unfortunately, roblox. theyre toy boxes.

another part of it is "you had to be there" syndrome. in 1993 gunstar heroes and link's awakening came out, and theyre great games. within 5 years you could play metal gear solid and ocarina of time. not saying that the latter 2 games are better than the former 2, but theyre wildly different. we got to see the cambrian explosion of video games. the witcher 3 came out a decade ago, twice as much of a time gap, and if it never existed before and came out tomorrow under new/unrelated branding it wouldnt seem like a dated title compared to what gets made today. the people have spoken, theres an archetypal set of "ideal games" and thats what gets made today. mortal kombat and super mario 64 are way easier to get excited about than mortal kombat 9 and super mario 3d world, because games like mortal kombat 9 and super mario 3d world already exist, and have for decades. were seeing gradual baby steps forward combined with some steps back and intentional pushes for stagnation. but to a zoomer this series of events never played out. all video games that existed exist all at once to them, and more of the same is on the way. again its why they gravitate to games where player interaction is the content, the content isnt thrilling. gen x/y were watching a horror movie slowly boil into a climax. gen z and beyond are living in that climax stretching forever forward.
