The fact that they thought they had a "Star Wars level" franchise on their hands astounds me. Even if they had a great game with good designs, that STILL would've been utterly delusional to think. Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises EVER. Thinking you're going to hit those heights right away is far beyond setting expectations too high.

They promise a weekly Vignettes and a New character a Month after its Release (and the same Month it was sunsetted on)

So unless they were working on those to the last minute, they must have had a month or two worth of those Vignettes and a Character nearly finished before getting shut down before its first season. even if they were mostly just Characters standing around and talking
Think about that. a whole ass Character nearly done was probably was gonna get teased never seeing the light of day until 20 years in the future when the Nda runs out

What's extra funny is when you remember that no one fucking believed Star Wars had any kind of future when it first came out. Lucas went on vacation during the opening week to try and soften the blow, and Fox executives signed him the merchandising rights in exchange for paying him a lower salary, all because everything thought it would be a flop. It was lightning in a bottle, and these dorks thought they had a sure line on something crapped out by the Destiny Crucible team?

Trend Chasing

Really? To be fair, Bazz seems to have hogged the spotlight. Combine with the worst way to give us character lore.

>Trend Chasing
To play doubles advocate that is a real potentially viable strategy in business. It isn't the act of doing it itself that becomes the problem, it is when it is not done in a factually based viable manner. If something is big and you can quickly develop a similar product for a reasonable price then you can get into that action. But it is your other points that defeated what would otherwise be a potentially viable strategy because they are simply not realistic about it.

The podcast "A Life Well Wasted"
The host, Robert Ashley, speaks with a few devs who recently worked at a now-defunct studio from Seattle that recently released a game that bombed and was removed from existence: Concord as "the game," Firewalk as "the studio," and Sony as "the big company" clearly in an effort to avoid any potential legal trouble.

>"We were excited locally in the studio, but the public had no idea what it was at first. I thought people were just harsh during the reveal trailer. I was like 'You know what? There's things we need to work on but it's okay. Once people touch the game, it's going to change things.' And then the beta numbers dropped, and numbers were not what we were expecting. And I think our mindset started shifting to 'things could go really bad.'"

>"It made news for how poorly it (the beta) did. Like, people would go out to news sites to, like, hear about our game and how negatively it was doing instead of like, hearing what the game was about. People heard about our game because of how poorly it did. But people didn't hear about what the game was, or even really tried. There was no shortage of news articles and YouTube videos and hate on the internet about how poor the numbers were, so it was pretty apparent."
Anonymous No.723132980
>>723132890

>"One of the things that a lot of people wonder in the comments section is like, 'what are they thinking!? How do these devs not know (how the game is being received)?' We know. We know full well. We know what's happening. We agree with it half the time. And more often than not, it's (changing the game) just not possible given the circumstances, given the stakes, the sunk cost into these things."

>"It was the most beautiful car that we crashed."

>"Travis" from the art team: Yeah. And I want them to be surprised when I'm happy about it. That's what I want. We were proud, regardless of how it went. We put out a good game."
