You know, a mod that makes the swords permanently get rid of the ghosts would be nice. Running past so many got old after a while. Or one that makes every enemy burp

That's literally what the swords do? Once a ghost is pinned down, they stick until you pull the sword out. Basically eliminates the ghost from being a problem.

That's true, but considering how few you get you have to be picky about what ghosts to remove. I'm well aware that what survival horror is about, picking and choosing battles. Id just like to be able to clear them out during the fucking escort 2nd half of the game

SH4 is an extremely mediocre game with maybe 4 really great moments. The gameplay is like all the worst parts of survival horror and none of the good parts

Nah. It's tediously annoying and this is coming from someone who was patient enough to get all the endings in a week. Half the frustration is Eileen's AI. She's stupidly polite when enemies are near by, like her AI's afraid to even shove them out of the way or run past them when they get remotely close to her, but her pathing works when there aren't any enemies in the room.
The devs really should've program some Ico/RE4-tier commands where you can call to her or have her wait in one spot. Otherwise the game's fairly easy if you're conservative with your ammo and don't give a flying fuck about Eileen.

The padding by backtracking through all the dream worlds again is lame too. There's also so really poor design choices like the escalator that seems to go on for way too long and the wall monsters are obnoxious if you don't know the trick to their wonky hitboxes.

It's not up there with 1, 2 and 3, but it's good in its own right. It's got a lot of interesting elements to it.
The worst thing about it is how much better the previous games were.

I tried replaying it and I just dropped it before Cynthia even died. I don't like the gameplay at all. I played 1, 2 and 3 all back to back, now it was supposed to be 4's turn but nope, something is just boring about it

No, the second half is just boring to play
You go back to check if there are new events in the apartment and it's just another haunting
If any games needs a remake it's 4

It's got some glaring flaws that's hard to ignore (and can make it a pain to play like the weapon durability) but it's got enough great stuff to make it worth it. It's certainly the weakest of the original games and yet I think it's probably the scariest for me - mostly when your apartment starts showing signs of possession and the new ghosts show up.

>normal area followed by hell version of that area
>doesn't feel like backtracking because each area and their hell versions feel like one complete area
>SH4
>normal areas all shown sequentially, followed by the hell versions of all the areas shown sequentially
>feels like needlessly backtracking to old areas. similar to skyward sword's problem

It wasn't even difficult, SH1 on hard mode felt much more like CBT. And don't even get me started on SH3 puzzles.
SH4 is just shovelware, plain and simple. I'd honestly rather play one of the western entries or SH f than ever replay this pile of garbage.

It's funny how the victims are the creepiest enemies in the series but the rest of the game's enemies are among the silliest.

So where exactly are those 2 missing notes? I didn't get them and every playthrough I see on YT misses them too
Anonymous No.723140614
I liked it enough to do the 4 ending playthrough and unlock all the bonuses. People who complain about Eileen are exaggerating, I remember having to try to get her hurt just to see it. If you don't give her a weapon she'll never be damaged enough to force into the two endings where she dies.

Also when you master how to fight Henry turns into the strongest protagonist pre Silent Hill F. Using the axe's i-frames and keeping fully charged by always tapping the attack button.

That being said I get why people don't like the game, everything else people say is valid. You have to plan when to use the silver bullets, candles, and swords or else certain parts still are difficult, especially when your apartment stops auto-healing. Overall I still really like the game, rip Cynthia

it feels like every 6th and 7th gen survival horror always had a 9 hour long blind playthrough. these days it's like 5-6.
Anonymous No.723141420
I haven't played it but I've watched some streams of it and from what I can tell the apartment and the apartment house with the eccentric neighbors and activities going on all seems really cool. The combat and enemies looks rough though and the sound design is like 50% absolute dogshit stock sounds, what is going on with that?

SH4 is probably the Silent Hill game most deserving of a remake.

I find it impressive how creepy the ghosts are, considering the simplicity of their design.
It's all in the animations, sounds and behavior.

No, i find them far more unnerving than any other monster in the franchise.
The other monsters look disturbing, but they ultimately just act like animals. The ghosts on the other hand might just look like floating corpses, but the way act makes them so much creepier.

you get enough swords to pin down all of the new generation ones which are much harder then the older ghosts. That is everybody starting from cynthia

its done intentionally not to make them completely trivial. This is why I hope they dont remake sh4. as much as some of the monster roster and second half of the game needs a rework I just know they are going to nerf signature mechanics like the ghost to appease whiny bitches that dont pay attention

I like the idea of exposing the towns supernatural power to a psychopath or sociopath or schizophrenic mind. Instead of the usual depressed losers everybody has been emulating ever since SH2

Immediately you could tell the difference as neither alessa, heater or james ever came up with the idea of ritualistically killing themselves to become part of the towns manifestation

I agree, but I still don't find them particularly scary. The horror in the series is very loud and in your face, so the ghosts being a little more subdued is nice.

No. It was great, beautiful. Then it made you repeat or backtrack, I forget, but I didn't finish it because of that.
Spoilt. Ruined. They fucked it but at least it gives a message a repeat does that.
All interest gone. It from real to fake, a work in progress, careless, didn't care, whatever.

different anon, each ghost was a different kind of pain in the dick, I don't think you can easily peak "favourites". I get your point but I always wished I could pin all of them down and I played on release.
