Funny how people are only figuring this out now- well, not really, since K-Pop and Korean media is still going strong and people are still glazing the country and its people.
I moved to and pretty much grew up in a place that's predominantly Korean. If white people are the majority at like 50%, then Koreans were effectively 45% the rest of the population. Most of the Koreans I met through middle and high school in the early '00s were mediocre-looking, average folks. A good number of them were pitifully unattractive with obvious flaws- I'm talking stereotypical racial caricatures like incredibly small, squinty eyes and bulbous noses. Absolutely nothing like what you see in pop culture.
They're very much so the niggers of East Asia and orientals minus the poverty. Modernizing and gaining wealth far too quickly got to their heads and they've become the most arrogant Asians you'll ever meet (which makes sense if you see where they were at the end of WW2).
They're like niggers in the sense of how insecure they are and they always play the victim. I would constantly see Koreans shitting on non-Korean Asians, but the moment a non-Korean Asian talked back, they'd lose their shit and cause a scene. I've seen Koreans chimp out just from hearing non-Korean Asians say the word "Korea," even if there's nothing negative or offensive being said.
They're definitely not the people they present themselves as in their dramas and on the big screen, but many are willing to delude themselves or turn a blind eye because they mastered the art of plastic surgery. I'm almost certain 90% of attractive Koreans you see walking about have had work done on them.
