it's okay, but the writing is pretty uninteresting and a lot of the later puzzles are just reapplying information you find elsewhere.

the core gameplay with the stripped down roguelite build drafting is cool though, I wouldn't mind more attempts at stripped down games with different supporting mechanical structures

fuck off.
>basic black and white (red and blue) story with no nuance
>surface level puzzles of mostly wordplay where you just have to keep playing until the game outright tells you X=Y
>complete disrespect of time, you can fiddle the rng but every action forces the player to have to deal with rng yet again, nothing takes action for the current run and some even demand a multistep sequence of actions where what you wanted will only come up two runs from the start of the sequence even if the rng lines up

Too much RNG bullshit in this game. A good roguelike can be beaten every single time by a skilled player, while the RNG simply changes what and how the player needs to do to win. In this shit a run is completely determined by RNG, not by skill or puzzle-solving ability.

case in point >>723152372

ah yes so to adjust RNG I have to start a new run, hope the specific room that spawns in a corner appears, hope that the specific room I want to adjust is one of the 3 choices in that room, and only then do I have to adjust it and RNG can still screw you over and take a while to spawn anyways

everything is always such a process with blue prince, and these people act like it's just normal, like "ah yes just do [insert massive grind here] and you are able to ever so slightly influence or control X thing", motherfucker how about having an actual well crafted puzzle game instead of a slot machine every time?

If you're unclear on how to get a good run, then read Architectural Digest. It lays out in explicit terms how to get the house you want. If the specific room you want has a color then deplete that color before using secret passage to draw it. Or if it's a dead end use draxis. Many doors? Use silver key. Really want conservatory? House has 4 corners per day.

But even the claim you need one specific room is bizarre. There are two of each chess piece and rooms with red letters or sanctum keys can be reliably reached.

It was so close to being good, all it needed was a little more thought put into it. The concept was neat, the execution was horrible. The RNG ends up ruining this game. You can know all the solutions to every puzzle and still fail because you rolled bad RNG. That's unacceptable, and the fact that it's like that means that this was either not/poorly tested or the dev just didn't give a fuck.
Anonymous No.723159297 [Report]
Why does this game deserve to win the GOTY?
Anonymous No.723159404 [Report]
It's literal slop. The atrocious story is not worth the effort, and the puzzles suck. The worst part is when you get to the end and realise it's completely unfinished and half the puzzles go nowhere.

Don't fall for this meme game.

It has so many puzzle elements that literally mean nothing for the ending. If you want to try different solutions, you can't unless the RNG lets you. That can be in 5 minutes, or 5 hours. I hate it.

It's a roguelike puzzle game where the roguelike aspect makes it actively worse. And I usually like roguelikes.

It's just unfun to have so much of the puzzle element held captive by randomness of the game.

I played the game with cheated RNG (if you increase your star count you can reroll every room infinitely), and it was still total garbage. Can't imagine having to try multiple times to get the right room in the right spot to progress.

Everything till you need to do the blue tent card hints to progress was fantastic. Even then it was fun for awhile getting to the draft house, but then EVERY room having another little puzzle box plus no real build up ending was lame. Definitely liked it alot though

An entire thread of "people" who don't know Jean Ribbon and who can only hold one objective in their head at a time. Fucking incredible. This game isn't for ESL's, speed readers, NIGGERS, or anyone who can't take notes and pay attention to their surroundings.
Anonymous No.723159786 [Report]
>>723148069 (OP)

I got to the blueprints mostly by myself (needed an hint on what "to castle" means because I'm ESL), with great pains because of all the rng.

The blueprints itself are the best puzzle in the game, and it was fun to get to the true room 51, but otherwise the game wastes so much of your time with bullshit I can't in good conscience give it more than a 6/10.

In a world where stuff like (original) Riven and Outer Wilds exist, I don't see why I would want to put up with a version of those games that arbitrarily decides when you get the chance to solve a puzzle, and when you don't.

I seriously think that the RNG adds next to nothing to the game, which would've been much better as a simpler adventure game where you keep finding rooms to add to your pool and can place and remove them at will from the house.

With that said I hope the dev tries again with something more "normal" because, all things considered, it was still worth playing all the way through, and it's insane just how much depth there is to the game.

You solve puzzles and learn lore but you are gatekept by a gambling minigame to roll for rooms while you try to reach every room and reach the far end of the rooms. Every time you enter a room you get an RNG set of rooms to choose, but you have to choose carefully to maximize your chances of getting keys or resources to make it to the far end or a particular grid square of interest. At a basic level each time you open a door, you create a room with maybe another door facing north south east or west. You start in the south. The doors facing north have a higher chance to be locked under certain conditions and as you go further north, so you need to get resources in your first few rows, but theres limited configurations. Theres also some hidden stuff and in certain rooms, so theres more puzzles and more layers to it.

Good worldbuilding is NOT good story
The world is fun to learn about, the backstory of the kingdoms is interesting enough, and putting the pieces together that "Oh! If you're playing with a group of people telling each other what you lean like a fucking ARG it's probably decent. Solo it's cancer because of how much RNG can fuck you, and with how cryptic the puzzles can be. I stopped playing after around 50 hours when I realized I was probably less than halfway done. It's a flawed game from the start. The dev wanted to put too many pieces of information, but it would have been too convoluted for a standard puzzle game (too much info at once), hence why he made it roguelite.
While this works, this also just introduced the randomness elements that are very frustrating when you're just trying to focus on something specific and you can't mitigate that, else it'd break the whole game.
This is very impressive for a one man game, but this is a huge flaw for a game that still requires a lot of efforts even without that. Not GOTY.

It's a very unique and memorable game and its worldbuilding has a surprising amount of depth, but it's also very frustrating and tedious to play and the board game aspect gets in the way of the mystery solving aspect. The vast majority of the rooms are empty and pointless, yes. No, I'm not counting a key and four worthless coins on a table as "not empty", fuck off. Even in the ones that aren't empty you can't do shit because it just contains part of a puzzle for a room you haven't gotten yet, and likely won't on this run. I never did that to see what happens. I did pretty much everything else, I think.
Oh I also never figured what "the key is in the bunker wall" means or whatever. And if the spiral symbol in the right box after the blue door means anything, I also didn't figure that out.

And is it just me or the blue prince mom is fucking dead and they hid her corpse somewhere? Did I misunderstand those logs?

Retarded game praised by pseuds because they think it makes them sound smarter. Dev couldn't decide whether he wanted to make a puzzle game or a roguelike so he tried to make both and it failed miserably.

I honestly cannot think of a worse combination of ideas in this industry than "myst clone" and "magic the gathering cardpacks". it's fucking unfathomable, like they were trying to be a modern day bialystock and bloom.

use wemod to cheat infinite resources like steps, keys, gems, dice and then you have a genuine incredible puzzle game on your hands. i we modded all the rng away and spent 100 hours having the time of my life. 10/10 my goty for sure

I don't know how people can have trouble with the rng elements in this game they're really not that bad.

I'll go as far as to say it's one of the best walking simulators of all time. I think it nailed the class and comfyness of a regal abode. Sound design, pastel color scheme, architecture and interiors, it all works in harmony.
Sadly, can't praise its gameplay side as much.

The only way Blue Prince would have been good is if they completely removed RNG and let you pick any room you want after you get to room 46. Also, a proper goal of finding more rooms like room 47, 48, 49, 50. Even if you keep playing and find everything there is basically nothing else that feels like you completed anything worthwhile.
