It would be a new game in a new engine that wouldn't be hold back by the so mentioned muh technical debt that Yoshi-P likes to use as an excuse to not fix any of the various problems with the game.

The new game could have a much better glamour system and a functional netcode for starters. If the new game is better, people will migrate, and with time the new story and characters can become beloved to.

I don't know, what i know is that the situation of FF XIV is pathetic. The game has various old systems that are bad and people are asking for change for years, and the explanation of the changes never coming is because it's not possible, because there is a technical debt, because it is a PS3 game etc.

At this point, just make a new game already. Why keep investing in a game that is frozen in time and will forever have this shitty glamour system and netcode for example?

For a lot of series, an entry being a 'numbered' one brings certain prestige and expectations. It's also a good way of determining whether it's a more experimental title or not, compared to the main series.
While I can see them switching to just sub titles at some point, that might also see a lot of people assuming there aren't any more 'proper' FF games after that.
