The overall tone and writing in the DEmake games is generally awful, with the whole experience playing like a Saturday morning Disney cartoon parody, rather than a bleak dystopian tale about a dying planet and corporate greed with OCCASIONAL glimpses of humor.

FF7:R parts 1-2 are literally made for people who loathe FF7 OG.

The original is my favorite game ever. I got it in 1998. The remakes are worth playing, even if I don't think they're good as 'remakes', but they do give you the opertunity to spend more time in that world, with a different enough story to keep things fresh and leave the player guessing what's gonna be different. They get a lot of shit, but they are generally fun.

It plays more like a Yakuza game than an Ubisoft open world, most notably something like 5 with multiple maps. It's not even open world because they're just large areas and you get different traversal options in each area to keep things fresh. The combat is excellent, the side content is excellent, the gameplay feels varied with the different character playstyles/minigames/traversal methods and the story is still compelling when you're wondering if they're going to fuck everything up or not. It was the best non indie game released last year. It's up there with Astlibra Revision for best JRPG I've played in recent years, but Astlibra is better.

All FF7 is pretty great and it's really easy to enjoy them on their own because Nomura did it in a way where you feel that it isn't a direct sequel, prequel or remake but almost like an alternate reality or different version of the story.
