I've been giving Space Invaders a genuine honest try but I get absolutely zero enjoyment from it. I tempered my expectations and all and went into it with an open mind but still found it absolutely mind numbing, and this happens a lot with old arcade games for me.
The worst part is I just know this will be called bait or trolling but I'm trying to have a genuine honest discussion, that some games do indeed age and after a certain age you just won't get it. To me this only happens with games, I don't have this problem with other art forms

Anything older than the NES is a novelty, and most games on the NES are only worth their historical value rather than as actual games.
The medium has advanced to the point where it's like comparing a cowbell to a full drum set.

Of course, the earliest surviving musical notations (Hurrian songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpxN2VXPMLc) and pieces of visual art are already pretty sophisticated compared to what the actual (not surviving) earliest attempts must have been.

Anyway, I wouldn't derive any enjoyment from overwhelming supermajority of games from before 90s either.

This, of course, would be tied to your expectations that are shaped by your prior experiences. If I knocked up some girl and made sure the kid didn't have access to phones or tablets or TVs and then introduced it to early 80s games on 8086 PC when the kid turned four, I'm sure the kid would have grand old time playing Pac-Man or Alley Cat or, indeed, Space Invaders. Conversely, if you raised such a kid on classics from this millenium, undoubtedly they would find contemporary mobile games incredibly unsophisticated also despite these being "modern" (and lose the appeal of Space Invaders).

I guess games do age with time after all , I don't know what anons on /v/ are talking about when they say that clunkyness in old games are a skill issue or some shit like that
