I know you're baiting, but it did feel like they toned down the grimdark stuff. Dark Souls 3 has body horror like the pilgrims turning into "butterflies" or worse yet "angels", pure depression kino like Irina's quest where you have to equip her bf's gauntlets to hug her after he kills himself. Even pic related's quest was completely hopeless. Her grandpa goes mad, she needs your help to put him out of his misery. Then she mysteriously disappears, you look around, and find her dead in front of his grave. Elden Ring didn't dare to pull off ANYTHING like this.
