"Tryhard" as an insult used to refer to a specific type of person: an obnoxious tourneyfag that brought that intensity into casual no-stakes matches to the point of trying to verbally control the entire team and having a tantrum when others don't want to listen
It devolved into meaning "person that's trying at all" or "person better at the game than me" and thats when it lost literally all meaning. Retards misused it so hard that "sweat" became the new standin insult, and the exact same de-evolution happened because people who are bad at vidya will use any excuse to project onto others except for accepting that they are bad.

Exactly why i'm not playing online games at all. Vidya time is "me time" and i want to play a game at my own pace. That means if i want to stand around and look at a chair for 10 minutes i will do just that and i don't want anyone to tell me to hurry up. Just like i don't want anyone in my game that impedes my progress. But most importantly i don't want the game(or the players) punishing me for playing my favorite class fantasy. If i want to play a sword/board warrior i don't want anyone to tell me i should switch to axes because they are just better or that ARs suck ass and i need to use SMGs.
