I hate what they've done to Bridget because he was materially responsible for a substantial number of men coming to healthier terms with their own homosexuality and bisexuality. Bridget was already a strong example of healthy nonconformity.
Making this change was simply ripping something very cherished by one "marginalized group" away and assigning it as clumsily as possible to a new one that's in vogue. I would not have given a shit if they had just introduced an entirely new character for transgender representation and let Bridget continue his arc instead of completely negating it.
I am unhappy with the change, first and foremost because it doesn't make sense. If Bridget were always a girl "psychologically," his whole story would have never happened, because he never would have been conflicted over living as one in the first place.
It's bad writing that's a middle finger to a sizable contingent of people who came to terms with themselves because of what Bridget represented to them. That's what bothers me about it. I don't hate Bridget. I hate what they did to him. Don't get those confused.
