It's a very nice PS4 that can also play the comparatively small PS5 library. I don't regret buying mine, but Death Stranding 2 and Physint are mostly what motivated me to buy it. I use it more often than I expected to.

I will say, however, that aside from being able to play 4K Blu-rays, it is unfortunately a worse home theater system than the two preceding PlayStations. The Blu-ray playback UI is kind of annoying (it throws a large play icon onto the center of the screen whenever it starts playing a video), and playing media from USB is the worst it's ever been. It has very limited codec support and won't even acknowledge any of my MP3s.

How loud is the fans ? Is it an airplane?

PS5 is the first Sony console I didn't buy immediately, and I even bought a Vita. Switch 2 is also the first Nintendo console I didn't buy immediately, and I bought a Wii-U. Consoles are dead, they simply cost too much to keep up with compared to PC with the $500 price tag and $70 games and paid online.

No, console gaming is honestly dying off. Sony makes most of its money from MTX on their game stores from shit like Fortnite now so they have no reason to license exclusives, all of the good exclusive franchises that I bought a PS4 for went to PC. PS5 might be my single worst tech purchase of all time. Its only function in my house now is a big ugly DVD player.

Really there's absolutely no reason to game on console over PC now, PS5 Pro is nearly as expensive as an equally powerful gaming PC, the big 3 of Microsoft Sony Nintendo aren't really in competition with each other anymore either. Nintendo moved to only making handhelds and Microsoft is focused on its game pass and is planning on ditching consoles hardware entirely.

One of the only gripes I have about it compared to the PS4 is that you can't stash your digital games in folders on the home screen anymore. You can select up to five to "keep in home," but the rest is just FIFO.
Confusingly, you can organize your games into named "collections" within your entire library, but they'll only show up while the console is connected to the internet. Certainly not a dealbreaker, but I continue to not understand why they've been trying to reinvent the wheel despite doing such a good job with the XMB on the PSP and PS3.

It's worth it if you can get it close to $500 before tax, and make sure you get one of the OG models instead of the slim/pro (Pic rel), otherwise you might find yourself with a bricked disc drive one day down the line.
Pre-owned is probably the best way to find one in '25 but considering how young the console is, it'll probably be good as new. I look at it like the counterpart to the phat PS3, able to play all PS4/PS5 games, all Blu Rays, and all 4K UHD's.
I have both side by side and if the PS3 phat didn't have crazy lag on PS1/2 bc and make jet engine noises after being on for 10 minutes, it'd be perfect

There's only two exclusives worth playing, those being Astro Bot and Gran Turismo 7, but only if you really like those genres of games. Everything else is on another platform. As a matter of fact, the boost in fidelity from PS4 Pro to the PS5 when it comes to Gran Turismo 7 was not that great like I was expecting, the only difference being non-existent load times.

Your friends being on console is the only real advantage and that has been largely sidestepped by cross-platform support these days. PC gaming since Steam has been click and go for decades now. The only games that would sometimes pose an issue are the ones that a PS5 wouldn't run anyway due to age.
While PSVR2 is a good piece of kit it's still locked down to the console and VR in particular almost demands mods that only PC can provide (see games like Skyrim VR). Also, compared to PSVR (which I own) the PSVR2 has been an absolute flop in terms of support from Sony; it has basically no real exclusives and isn't backwards compatible with the best like Wipeout Omega Collection. While a PC can't play GT7 (yet) I did play some Demon's Souls running at 8K, 120fps and 21:9 today and since it runs on a potato I wouldn't recommend spending money on a console just to play it.

My PC is old, I got it around 2016/17. It's got an I7-7700k and a GTX 1080. It was really high spec back then and cost around £1200. To buy the modern equivalent of that spec would probably cost close to £3000.

If I am willing to make all these concessions the console better be cheap as fuck or it is not worth it. I would consider getting a PS5 if online pay was not paid.
