Why are so many people mindlessly parroting this and ignoring the real reason?
When arcades were popular in the US, the distance didn't matter. Car culture is heavily ingrained, and people love driving anywhere
Every anon who was born and raised in the US has memories of being driven somewhere by his parents just for fun unless you're late gen z/alphie where that happens less often
EU has walkable cities and arcades were extremely popular there too, but they also died just like in the US.
EU anons have the same memories of enjoying arcades when they were younger just like US anons do too
Arcades have never been cheap which's why they were always profitable, they have solo, coop, party, versus games designed to eat your wallet but people come for the experience, atmosphere, and fun group activity which's why genres like fighting games, have a strong root to arcades and people say the FGC was more fun before it became corporate. Arcades have a strong community aspect
The price of arcades is clearly not a problem with how people will always happily burn their wallets for: MTX, DLC, Gacha, Season Pass, Subs, Live Service etc.
All of these are much more predatory than arcades and cost more too, the predation of people wasting money has only gotten worse since the death of the arcades, not better, it's obvious people are not saving more when these more predatory methods are still returning large profits.
Death of the arcade is a cultural and societal issue due to less focus on family + community, and yes it's also because of the increase of blacks and browns who destroy things around them and make things worse as they don't behave.
It's also why kids don't go out as often as before and why those giant kid fun centers all shut down, and bday parties at chains like Chuck E Cheese, Pizza Hut, McDonalds etc don't happen any more
There's no community
