The opponent's pokémon were absolutely disastrous in this game. Especially the gym leaders. Crystal had the potential to change the Gold & Silver mistakes but fell short terribly.
> You can literally find hoothoot in the first tall grass
Gym leader uses only Kanto shit with a massively cheated lv 9 pidgeotto because they desperately wanted the flying gym to be the first. Could've been the third gym with a Noctowl, but no.
> Unevolved bugs for #2 followed by a useless Scyther
As if you needed another argument not to pick chikorita (worthless shit), you now have the second disadvantaged gym, but the first two bugs are unevolved and none of the 3 have remotely any useful attacks. Again, only kanto. If put later in the game, could've used Ariados, Forretress & Scizor.
The only well-done gym leader. Miltank is a signature Johto pokémon. Forces you to either overlevel, get Gastly or a Machop.
> Kanto ghost spam
I get that the only other alternative was Misdreavus... BUT WHY NOT USE IT?! Why two haunters when you literally have that new little shit?!
> Fighters again confirm the gymdevs had a massive kantoboner and apparently hated all the new shit?
Where's the new fucking heracross that would've been too powerful for the bug gym? It would've been excellent here!
> Two AIDS-strat magnemites
Why not one offensive magneton and idk? Scizor? Skarmory?
> Seel instead of Jynx? I get why Sneasel was left out because it's useless in gen 2 & 3. Makes me wonder where they were with their heads not realising the physical/special split needed to be based on moves instead of types from gen 1 onwards.
> TRIPLE dragonair spam
Dragonite is too powerful for an 8th gym, so maybe we should make it a different type? There's surely no way we're going to fight a champion who spams 3 dragonites right? *foreshawing* RIGHT????!!!
Sorry not sorry. The devs were high on fent-laced meth when they made these team compositions. Visually it was a good game. Gameplay itself was trash.
