>Hey there everyone! You remember me, Irvine? You remember when all of us except Rinoa were all living at the same orphanage with the matron who is the current sorceress we've been tasked to assassinate? What's that? You don't!? The four of you have spent years training while junctioned to GFs which affect your long-term memory? And the guy who ordered that is the husband of said matron/sorceress? The guy, aware of said memory effects, had you undergo those junctions anyway so you could be properly trained and conditioned to assassinate his wife that you as children loved like your own mothers? And somehow I avoided all of that and joined a different garden where all I did was learn how to shoot guns and I never had to use mind-altering forces beyond my comprehension?
>Well I'll just wait to remind you of all of that until a convenient time, like when we're all back at the orphanage somehow. Until then I'll complete my mission unless I'm reminded that the sorceress is our matron, which I'm aware of but won't tell anybody about before or during the mission, at which point I'll won't want to shoot her and probably be prodded by one of you who'll probably just think I'm a choker to take the shot anyway. Yep, I won't say a thing. Hey. nice legs Selphie, I'll just be spending most of my time instead getting into your blissfully unaware pussy, forget all those other details.

What Auron would've said would've been seen as extremely heretical, Wakka's dumb ass would've said "Sin's toxin, ya'?!"
Spira is so steeped in religious dogma, that Auron couldn't say anything, he used to be a monk of Yevon, he knows EXACTLY how dogmatic it is.
Auron used the approach to show, not tell. Because he had to. The only time Auron tells anyone something, is to tell Tidus that Sin is Jecht. Because, we'll, Tidus has a right to know.

Auron played it perfectly. He needed the others to experience for themselves and make their own choice, hence "This is your story"
He's not there to force them to do anything.

Tifa was confused and unsure if what she knew as the "truth" was accurate because Cloud got too many details right among all the lies, which made her doubt herself.

The central twist in Final Fantasy VII is that Cloud Strife’s identity is a fabrication built from trauma, false memories, and Jenova’s influence. Cloud was never a SOLDIER First Class as he believes, but a Shinra infantryman present at the Nibelheim Incident five years earlier. After the event, he was subjected to Hojo’s experiments involving Mako and Jenova cells, which left him mentally shattered and suffering from amnesia.

To cope with the trauma and shame of his failures, Cloud’s mind fused his memories with those of Zack Fair, the real SOLDIER who died protecting him. He came to believe he was Zack’s partner, that he joined SOLDIER, and that he fought alongside Sephiroth. Tifa’s uncertain recollections and Jenova’s psychic influence reinforced this false persona, further blurring truth and illusion.

As the story unfolds, Cloud learns he never became a SOLDIER and that his memories of Nibelheim are a distorted blend of reality and fantasy. His mind replaced his weaker self with Zack’s heroic image as a survival mechanism shaped by psychological trauma and Mako poisoning.

Sephiroth later exploits this by revealing the truth, not to show Cloud is a clone, but to shatter his confidence and force him to face the shame of his real past. The revelation is meant to make Cloud betray his own sense of identity.

In the end, Cloud’s journey is about reclaiming his true self. By accepting his genuine memories—his childhood, his mother’s death, and his real role in Nibelheim—he rebuilds his identity honestly instead of living as the hero he only imagined himself to be.

Tifa didn’t know the full truth at first. She knew Cloud wasn’t in SOLDIER back in Nibelheim—he never showed up in that group photo with Sephiroth and Zack—but when she met him again years later, he remembered specific details of the Nibelheim Incident that no outsider could have known. That’s what made her doubt herself. She started wondering if maybe she was the one remembering wrong.

As for how Cloud knew things he shouldn’t—like details of what happened inside the Nibelheim reactor—it’s because he was actually there, just not in the way he remembered. Cloud was one of the masked Shinra infantrymen who went on the mission with Sephiroth and Zack. He hid his identity from Tifa out of embarrassment since he’d failed to join SOLDIER.

When Sephiroth went mad in the reactor, Cloud fought him and threw him into the Mako pit. He really did do that part—but afterward, his trauma, Mako exposure, and Jenova’s influence wrecked his mind. Later, when he and Zack escaped Hojo’s lab, Zack told him about SOLDIER, Shinra, and their pasts during the trip to Midgar. Cloud’s damaged mind mixed Zack’s stories with his own memories, filling in the blanks with what he wanted to believe.

So Cloud’s “fake” memories were built on real experiences, Zack’s stories, and Jenova’s memory-copying influence, all scrambled together. That’s why his recollections were convincing enough to fool even Tifa until the truth unraveled.

That kind of comment is just knee-jerk negativity. It’s not about the em dash or even your question—it’s someone taking a cheap shot because they think using a tool means you’re not thinking for yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with using ChatGPT (or any source) to clarify complex story details, especially in something like Final Fantasy VII, where the plot is intentionally layered and confusing. You’re doing what smart people do: gathering information, comparing versions, and trying to understand the story better.

If you want to respond, keep it short and calm, like:

Just asking for a clear explanation. Nothing wrong with using tools to learn.

Or don’t reply at all—comments like that are often bait.

FFX isn't perfect. But I think Auron works without it being dumb. Because when you get to Yunalesca it's very very obvious that he was bringing Tidus and Yuna there specifically expecting them to both reject the final summoning.

That’s not just rude—it’s openly racist. The person isn’t trying to debate ideas; they’re just looking to insult and provoke. Once someone brings ethnicity or language into it, there’s no point engaging further.

Best move: **don’t reply.** Block, mute, or report them if the platform allows it. Responding only gives them what they want: attention.

If you feel like saying *something* before walking away, keep it measured:

> No need for racism. Take care.

Then move on. You did nothing wrong by asking a thoughtful question or using AI for clarity. That person showed more about themselves than about you.

Yeah, that’s just him doubling down—mocking your formatting and implying you didn’t write your own comment. Classic low-effort trolling.

You’ve got two real options:

1. **Ignore him completely.** Trolls lose steam fast when they don’t get a reaction.
2. **If you respond at all, keep it dry and unbothered.** Something like:

> You seem upset that I write clearly.

Then stop there. No arguing, no defending.

He’s not trying to discuss *Final Fantasy VII* or your point—he’s trying to feel clever at someone else’s expense. The best way to win that kind of exchange is to show you’re not taking the bait.

I think there's tact to Irvine's reasoning and his approach to things. It's obvious that he's in a state of shock almost the entire time, jerking off and panicking until it finally matters. Recognizing his old friends becomes a problem with uncanny valley and the realization that they've lost their memories due to Guardian Forces. Something that he would become aware of and is aware of from his own Galbadian dossier. He goes to Selphie because she's been his safety net, to see what she may remember which ends up being nothing.

Granted, this is all head canon and personal interpretation, but there's a lot of differences in Squall that I think would put Irvine off, too. The emotional support, the actual leadership even if he needs directing, and walking into a warzone with the complete intent of starting a new world war. Keep in mind that he barely interacts with anyone else before the party splits, and he's forced to commit to Caraway's orders to recover Rinoa and abandon his friends. Clinging to his work and mission, it feels like parallels with Squall. Irvine has to put his emotions, his memories, and everything else away for the sake of his new family (Galbadia Garden) and duty to a new nation. Squall has to embrace his emotions, memories, and everything else that he's put away for the sake of his new family (the party) and duty to a new nation.

That or Nomura and Kitase realized they had written themselves into a corner and completely altered and/or added Irvine as connective tissue to salvage their 'narrative'.

Yeah, honestly their big shocking twist really wasn't the grand impact they wanted it to be. Edea being their matron I suppose is a pretty big deal but they really didn't need to go so hard. like she could have just magicked them to forget her as the last act of her sanity. Honestly I think the story probably would have been better had they actually known each other the whole time properly. People weren't Dragon Ball characters in the original game. Sephiroth was just a war hero having a very bad day. SOLDIER never even got a surrender out of the Wutai. It was a ceasefire (although effectively a surrender).
Zack gets put down like a dog by two Shinra goons. He trains with body weight squats.
We never see any superhuman feats of SOLDIER or hear about them, because they didn't exist until the follow up media.

Also the point of the final battle with Sephiroth is to show he was always delusional. Sephiroth squares up for a final fight and Cloud defeats him in one hit. Lifestream stuff probably happened, too.
Shame and how people handle it is a big theme of the original FF7 (Cloud, Barret, Cid, Red XIII, Cait Sith, Yuffie, Sephiroth, Hojo). The real Sephiroth could never live up to his legend and couldn't live with the fact that he was a science experiment of Hojo. He creates two separate delusions each time he learns the last one was fake.
He thought he was a natural hero, then he learns he was a science experiment. He copes and says he is the true heir of ancients because he believes Jenova was one, and that he is taking back the world from the traitor humans. Then he learns Jenova is not an ancient and is in fact a freaky alien. "Oh no big, deal. Actually, I kind of always knew I was a god."
His actual character is very noticeable in the original game when Aerith dies. He is giving a messiah monologue in background and no one is paying any attention to him. Cloud even has his back turned to him.
This got dropped in all later interpretations for rule of cool.
