You don't have to actually hit upwards, you can just normal slash and hit them in front of you without needing to put yourself in a worse position. Plus you can affect which direction they're flying towards by slashing left or right and try to gather them up towards the same spot as soon as they fly up.

Every individual enemy and boss can have damage multipliers depending on your needle. Usually lower needle level means it'll do more damage. So that even with level 1 needle, you won't be spending hours per attempt to kill a boss. They did this in HK but only a few bosses

Yep, and damage also gets rounded, so even though you're going from 17 to 21 damage from needle 4 to 5, Lost Lace for example has 1.05 mult at 4 and .95 mult at 5 which makes your actual hits go from 18 to 20 damage.
Some of them are silly like Act 1 bosses you can skip like Moorwing have 2x damage on Needle 1 and 1.3x on 2 and 1x on 3, meaning the first 3 needles do 10 -> 12 -> 13 damage respectively.
Tools also have the exact same system based on the crafting kit level.

In act 1 you can get kidnapped by a fly and end up imprisoned there without gear. He appears in a variety of places to grab you, but you can either miss him or just kill him before he grabs you.

I had a good time with the game and while playing it through acts 1 and 2, I was like

the entire time but now I don't really know. It's at least on par, I didn't like act 3 as much and the finale was worse than the original's but it still wasn't bad at all. They did a role-reversal by making the large "puppet master" the fake final boss and making her knight the main boss which I don't mind. Exploration was fine, platforming was fine, some bosses kind of just existed and felt like HK1 leftovers. It's still GOTY though. I used the hunters crest the entire time, the only time I swapped was when the game forced me to after getting a new one.

You have the Pure Vessel and Hollow Knight/Ghost born from The Pale King, The White Lady and the Void. While it's understandable that the Void would make up most of their appearance these guys don't exactly have any Root like abilities or limbs that would give away to them also being the offspring of the White Lady or a Wyrm like lower half like the Pale King. Then there is Lace and Phantom having nothing in common with their mother GMS other then being Theater Kids and using Silk. They also aren't able to use their hair for Silk attacks the same way GMS does with hers. And then there is Hornet who is born from Herrah and The Pale King and she's almost a carbon copy of the Pure Vessel and doesn't share anything physical on her Weaver side of a bloodline, other then being able to use Silk, such as having multiple eyes, extra limbs or a spider-like lower half maybe?

I'm just stating this because while it is cool that Hornet has killed and taken Grand Mother Silk's power and as a result has Ascended to a God which we will hopefully see fully in a new DLC, it just irritates me now that before she just has an ordinary typical form like the Pure Vessel and now get's a more Weaver/Spider looking form now. What are your thoughts on it /co/?

Aside from Void tendrils and Root tentacles likely just being interchangeable, you can justify that the Wyrm/Root children just aren't fully mature yet. If you look at the Shade Lord's look, if you just painted him white he'd have a similarly spreaded roots look to the White Lady. It wouldn't be exact thanks to them clearly sharing more visual similarities to the Pale King anatomically, but all the children's masks have unique "horns" because of their Root heritage.

I don't like Lace because of her personality and the silly big pantaloon design, but I like her origin and I get why she is jealous of Hornet ("it's YOU who she really wants!") and angry at her mother. As for boss fights, she's ok.
She really had to appear once or twice more in act 2 to talk to Hornet/mock her so we could know her better (she could at leaat react to Phantom's death), the game is so long you can forget Lace exists.
Basically, she is not enough of a character to be a rival and not enough of a presence to make you truly care. Team Cherry tried to use her like they used Hornet in the first game (at least in the first 2 acts, Lace's importance skyrockets in act 3), but it didn't fully click. Limited exposure worked for Hornet because Hollow Knight was a much shorter game AND she had cooler design AND cooler voice lines AND a no nonsense personality. Lace is just a brat having a tantrum.

It's very slightly slower, but almost never meaningfully so if you do it grounded. That's still pretty punitive given how strong air healing is, but shaman has so many ways to deal damage safely that it's easier to avoid getting hit. Kinda balances out.

As another anon mentioned you can practice on another save, I just finished 100% steel soul. Worst part is early act 2, I lost to the underworks guantlet on my first try, then the clockwork core guantlet on my second. Once you start getting the pale oils and an extra mask or two things become much safer. I collected almost everything before moving to act 3, and then shaman crest just invalidates everything. Funny enough, TC put out the patch to nerf thread storm right before I went to Lost Lace, but pale daggers still wrecks her. The range of the needle beam + weavelight to ensure you'll always get a cast off made it very easy.

Beast Bind's biggest strength is that it is a damage increase, a silk refund, and sustained health refill all at once, in the right situation when you can attack constantly and keep chaining Binds for 100% uptime and aren't taking more than 3 masks per activation it is probably the best crest in the game, the damage output can really be incredible and you can just not bother dodging weak hits and keep attacking, that's just a pretty narrow situation and even in its ideal use case Wanderer can do the same thing 90% as well, without having the massive inherent limitations Beast does with being unable to heal during platforming and having zero fucking blue slots which make it actually kinda tricky to play in boss fights where everything does 2 damage because unlike Wanderer if you get low and then back off to Bind safely you don't even get your healing until you go back in and risk dying. Wanderer is outright better at doing that in most fights actually because it has two blue slots and can use Multibinder/Injector Band to improve its Bind spam.

But taking damage reduces it by a lot more, so taking damage really is not recommended if you want the damage buff. It also risks cutting into your actual masks healed.

the only crests I liked were hunter and architect, and sometimes witch and reaper for platforming which I ditched for architect which has the regen hp ability
magic is so much worse than subweapons it's not even funny I have no idea why they locked the two ways to buff magic at the end of the game with volt filament and shaman (and shaman has dogshit slots for no reason), and if you really want to turn silk into damage witch is easily better with better slots and synergies with already good blue trinkets
