So, help me understand something. Why was this game sooooo shilled? Like for a whole year everybody was like "ERMARGERD 10/10! 10/10! 10/10! LITERALLY BEST GAME EVARR ERMAGAAARD!!!"

Now that the annoying hype wave has died down, I was like "alright, I'll check this game out now" and I am just about 50 hours into it. I killed all the gobbos and orcs and ogres in Act 1 and chopped off Minthara's head. I am currently genociding the dark iron dwarves in the Underdark and.... I think I am actually having a lot of fun with this game, but I don't get why it's a 10/10. Like for me? It's a high 8, maybe a 9 depending on how the story continues.... maybe the game will become 10/10 as it goes on.... idk... but so far, even though I seem to be enjoying it a lot so far, I just don't see why it was such a huge cultural phenomenon for a good year after it came out.

If you are a huge fan of this game and you claim its one of the best games ever, can you weigh in? What makes it one of the best games ever?

Act 1 is the only fleshed out act. It's literally downhill from here. Larian does this on every game btw

It's a high quality CRPG? Those are often pretty popular. Think of Skyrim, Mass Effect and The Witcher 3.

Have you seen the quality of games we get recently? The fact that you're having a lot of fun with a game released in the modern era of video gaming means it has gone above and beyond the current bar.
It's not the best game ever, no. But it is a good game, in these fallen days where good games are simply not common.

I get why Mass Effect 1 was a big hit. Amazing storyline, great characters, an entire universe worth of lore to uncover, ancient alien myths/threats and whatnot, and the gameplay was pretty serviceable too.

Skyrim was always a meme to me. I can't believe how big Skyrim is, even today. I get it's mostly the modding community that carries it today but still.

Witcher 3 was boring to me. The gameplay was also pretty bad. W3 is an even bigger "wtf why is everybody obsessed with this game" kek

I think there is a lot of truth to this. A modern AAA game that doesn't put me to sleep? Yeah BG3 doesn't really have a lot of competition lol.

It took me 5 playthroughs to understand why BG3 is a masterpiece 10/10. It's mechanically the best turn based CRPG ever made and story wise above average. It's not absolutely perfect, but it is great. The side characters have their moments of visible growth through story progression and it's clearly the love child of DND and Divinity if you were a fan of both before.
My top 3 CRPGs are:
Baldur's Gate 3
Archaelund
Wasteland 3

Because of all the choices? I am intrigued enough to play the game again and side with the gobbos+Minthara to see how it plays out from the other side

I did have an extremely fun time taking out the main goblin fortress. I was too weak for a frontal attack so what I did was I dismissed my whole party and went stealth sniping them with a crossbow. If I accidentally pulled the main pack, I ran the fuck away and came back again try and snipe away their numbers. I took out like maybe half of them and then came back with my full party, fully rested, and slaughtered the rest. For a turn based game... this was actually very "involved" and I loved the strategic element of it.

There's a way into the goblin interior from the area above the main entrance. There's a cracked wall there that will wake the nearby sleeping guards if you try to smash it down.

But here's the kicker: you can cast silence on top of the cracked wall and now hitting it won't alert anyone. Once you smashed it down you can use the beams to navigate through the goblin fortress.

I could be wrong here, but doesn't Shadowheart only cuck you if you cuck her first? If you fuck other women, Shadowheart will not take you seriously and will fuck other men, but apparently if you commit to her, she commits to you. If that's true (which I'm not sure about) I find it hilarious that people feel betrayed by her. That is how a lot of dopes in relationships act. Like yeah she wasn't very faithful, but you also weren't very faithful yourself, a complete lack of introspection.

The contamination of an ip/brand/setting normally associated and consumed by straight white males is always a big deal for them. It's imperative to take away the straight white male joys or anything that entertains him. WotC has been working non-stop to contaminate the role play tabletop experience and even card games but it had not been successful in the video game industry. A new BG3 was just the golden opportunity to do so, which is way the gave the license to larian "where are the women?" studios. Larian did its job and then just moved on, ready to contaminate another IP. WotC now just needs to make a BG4 and bring in more BG1/2 companion to take a big shit on them just like Larian did.

Not him but its less about โ€œchoicesโ€ and more about it being a simulation sandbox rpg where player characters have agency and systems encourage individualization and out of the box thinking. itโ€™s the best computer game Iโ€™ve played thatโ€™s captured that element of tabletop rpg gameplay. but when it comes to just โ€œchoicesโ€ its lacking, as an evil play through doesnโ€™t have as much cosmetic or structural difference when compared to other computer rpgs.

Because after years of being told Bethesda and CDPR were the kings of RPGs, it was an actual RPG. Multiple builds, multiple party combinations, multiple solutions to each quest, and you are always guaranteed to have disagreements with your party characters, plus it was multiplayer so you could have arguments with your friends. It's simply a good game, it's not hard to explain.
Now return to /v/ where we're so mindbroken we can only bitch about trannies, fags, cucks, and bears lest we actually play a video game before forming our opinion about it.

BG3 was kind of a perfect storm.
It came out after the crpg revival that was lead by games like Divinity Original Sin, Pathfinder, Pillars of Eternity, and several others. Those games were all popular within the niche rpg community but never really had mainstream appeal.
BG3 had much higher production values than all those games and was simpler mechanically, though still with enough depth to be interesting.
This lead to it obviously being hugely popular with the rpg crowd as it was the big budget crpg they've always dreamed of.
Then at the same time DnD got huge with normies thanks to 5e and Critical Roll. So BG3 being a video game of that lead to normie interest and then it also being fully multiplayer lead to full blown normie popularity.
And on top of all of that it's just a well made rpg despite what the contrarians will tell you.

It's a sequel to one of the most beloved CRPGs ever, and in itself a CRPG with the most production values being put into up to date. For me, a die hard RPG player, it's certainly one of the best games ever made. Mechanically, it's the most "open" turn based RPG, with unprecedented freedom of engagement in and out of combat. Basically, BG3 is the best translation of D&D tabletop experience into a video game. Many tried, but ultimately, only Larian succedeed. Larian also put a great amount of thought about what players might want to do with that freedom, and it shows. BG3 is a monumetal achivement for western role playing games, and as of yet, nobody came close to that. Well, maybe TW3, but i'd argue they aren't really comparable.
