Nintendo realized last generation they could purposefully make expensive controllers with the possibility of stick drift making them useless and that most people will complain and buy replacements at full price, natually Sony and Microsoft followed this generation at the possibility of getting EVEN MORE money
Chinese controllers now fill in the gap for people who just want something that works and don't care about fancy things like NFC support/hd rumble/haptic triggers/swapping out dpads for a pizza dish

when they used better parts for less money. there zero excuse for first party to still be using shitty alps pots for the price they charge. they depend on people being dumb, and sony knows this. they give their customers the privilege of buying a dual sense edge so they can keep buying the same shitty stick pots over and over.

First party manufacturers have always sandbagged their controllers to an extent(both in terms of durability and quality control), replacement controllers are a nice revenue stream they have no reason to give up on.
The difference between now and back in, say, the PS360 generation and earlier is that: i. controllers used to be modestly priced so it wasn't a big deal when you had to get a replacement, and ii. there was no global e-commerce infrastructure to allow for third party manufacturers to properly address the market. So it's not a case of first party controllers getting worse, they just got more expensive and cheaper better alternatives cropped up.

controllers simply used to be built better but you were expected to buy multiple of them for local coop. now there's so many bells and whistles in them that there's a lot more that can break. sega was using hall effect sticks on the saturn/dreamcast though, so we've regressed fairly hard.

It really doesn't, is the thing. Dualsense is a worse controller than the Dualshock 4, and that's not even getting into the subscription scam of the Dualsense Edge and its stick modules. Of the three current flagship controllers I'd only point to the Switch 2 Pro Controller as holding a candle to current Chinese offerings, and Chinese offerings are still nicer and more feature dense while not being a glued-together pain in the fucking ass to disassemble, modify, or repair.

>When did chinkshit controller beat first party?
When couch co-op died and the three major manufacturers realized they no longer need controllers to last a long time.
Back then, they couldnt' afford to have up to 4 controllers constantly break. But since couce co-op is dead, people buy one to two controllers.

The major companies don't want to sell only one or two controllers. They want to sell a lot. And how do you sell a lot of controllers to a moronic fanbase that only cares "about how the burger tastes and not how it's made"

Most batteries have between 30 and 60% charge when you buy them, which is more than enough to last you for the entire gaming session

But you didn't tell me how your chink batteries are any less of a ewaste than other lithum batteries that last 10x longer?

I don't know what's wrong with people that assume lithium batteries have a magical Chinese aspect that cause them to be time-bombs, but the Japanese and American machines manufactured in the same facilities using the same batteries in different housings have different, good, corporate magic.

It's not really about hall sticks though. Sure they last longer than the shitty potentiometer sticks they put in controllers in [currentyear] but the shittiness of those current sticks is mostly due to cutting rather than the tech sucking. Controllers used to have sticks that lasted way longer just because they spent more money on them, but now they're trying to shave cents where they can.

For some controllers it's less that they didn't drift, in fact their raw input shows they drift like all absolute holy hell, but rather that controllers tended to auto-calibrate WAY better than modern controllers do

They have awful centering, which auto-calibration helps with
If the potentiometer is damaged and inputs are constantly jumping around, which is what's typically referred to with drift, no amount of calibration is going to help with that.
also you can find claims of people going through multiple DS2s due to sticks malfunctioning if you comb through old forums, the term "stick drift" just didn't exist until current gen
