It's nice that it fucking killed the og zelda formula, introduced the grottos which are proto shrines and breakable weapons / shields

Most retarded bait I've read today

Grottos were bad game design, they introduced the player to all kinds of monsters with no way out.

it's basically ALttP in 3D

ALTTP was better for being a no nonsense game with god tier pacing. OoT just being 3D has zero novelty now.

I'm not sure it holds up. It doesn't have analog camera, it runs at 240p resolution and average 20fps, there's hitching when you pause the game, saving quitting and resuming doesn't retain your position in the game, most puzzles involve block pushing or just shooting a switch, there's unskippable cutscenes every 30 seconds, the lock on bounces to enemies you dont intend it to, there's knee high fences you cannot vault over, there's inclines the horse refuses to move beyond, you have to play several songs and run back to the temple of time to transform between child and adult forms, rupees are completely worthless and seemingly the only reward you get for exploration, the dialogue options are redundant just forcing you to pick Yes, there's tons of things the game just doesn't explain, there's tons of things the game over explains, the map is useless, a lot of the only sidequests in the game are fetch quests, nonexistent swimming controls, arbitrary limitations between child and adult link items, the teleports between areas leave a lot to be desired, no faster movement mechanic for young link, the challenge is virtually nonexistent, there's a lot of backtracking for 100% completion, Navi gets stuck repeating the same info routinely, many items are just palette swaps or replacements with the same functionality, and there's no world building or character development.

For its time like 30 years ago it must have been really impressive, however these days I can probably give it a 7/10. I would rather play basically any other game, at all, or in this franchise even.

holy mother of dishonest arguments, this is like saying you might as well eat cow dung because beef has shit particles in it

yeah, botw is vastly superior to those grottos

>go into random hole
>find cow
>gives me milk for free
I will always remember this cow. I can't, however, remember 90% of the TOTK/BOTW shrines.

Not for lack of trying, right? the first four on the great plataeu that give you abilities? the waterfall? the one encased in rock? the one at the base of hyrule castle? the one in zora domain? the one you jump from the top of a cliff and land on it? the two on opposite cliff peaks? the one at the heart of lost woods?

I could keep going, you remember a cow in a hole halfway up death mountain, but you can't remember one of 120 shrines in Botw? get your head examined.

The only shrine I remember in BotW is the one where you had to carry a blue flame through obstacles attempting to put the fire out and light each torch. That one felt a little like an older Zelda dungeon in terms of design.

Ironically a shrine up in death mountain

the PC port addresses a few of these things, but really it's just smoothing out wrinkles in a game that's been succeeded many times over by other developers over the decades

Not him but I'm sure if I played it I'd remember more individual shrines. I still agree to an extent. BOTW is a biiiiiiig. OoT comparatively is very small. I remember a lot of specific moments in OoT with greater clarity. Not a condemnation of BOTW necessarily, just my recollection. OoT feels perfectly sized. It feels like a complete adventure but it's only like 12-20 hours.

Interesting how everything you describe is part of the overworld, and not in the shrine. Sounds like you don't remember the shrines either.

The grottos (caves) were in the very first Zelda game, retard.

I wish someone would make a BotW clone that was just the castle but bigger. No open grass shit. Shouldn't be too hard to copy BotW physics, right?

And inb4 some dipshit says "play elden ring or genshin impact" let me clarify. The only similarity Genshin has is climbing and gliding. It doesn't have any real physics. You don't ragdoll. You can't throw shit. And elden ring has no climbing or gliding. Just because these games are set in fantasy doesn't mean they play alike.

And besides the physics, I really like that Zelda doesn't concern itself with rpg stats or skills. You just grab items, climb, and survive. I like it simple. Or rather, I think those other stuff are equivalent to flashy jiggling keychains.

Of the shrines I mentioned I focused on the star alignment ones, thinking it might jog some memories.

You're all just seeming the same to me, a gelatinous mass of congregated disenchantment with anything recent in long running franchises.
