Ballard of Gay Tony was shit. It was shit for the same reason GTA V is actually shit. Rockstar's giga realistic engine just doesn't mesh well with the more classic over-the-top gameplay of Ballard & V.

The only good HD era GTA is IV. TLAD is ok in it's own right, but Ballard is a mess. Same goes for V, but no one will say it.

i think the missions are just fun and were designed with people like OP in mind who find the small scale missions of IV boring. in the second mission you're given a "sci-fi" fun that's cooler than anything you use as niko, then you're racing sports cars, blowing up yachts, jumping out of planes, and clearing entire buildings of goons.

Niko was an amazing protagonist wasted on a mid GTA game. A plot about an eastern war veteran illegaly immigrating to america with only the clothes on his back should have written itself.

That was only a small part of the problems for me. The half-assed implementation of various mechanics made me drop it.
First time I got angry was when I tried to cross the Broker Bridge because I saw the normal pedestrian traffic across. Everyone walks just fine, Niko enters - 5 star manhunt.
Then it turned out cars can't be repaired without also giving them random paint jobs.
Then I noticed that whenever a main mission unlocked some new type of car, half the cars on the streets would suddenly be it, while some other models all but disappeared.
I've had enough when calling a taxi fucked me over. Traffic was congested at the toll gates as usual and the taxi driver skipped without paying. Wasn't him that got dragged out of the car by cops, it was the passenger, Niko.
