I kind of believe them.
Sure, I bet they think it'd be rad as hell if it happened. But taking a step back, I also don't think any of them ever thought they'd ever see even close to the success they've seen and are seeing. So I don't think any of them ever expected them to win GotY or anything to begin with. And from that perspective they can probably reel back and ground their expectations relatively easily.

That said. I still bet they'll win GotY. Journos are too shit at videogames to give the award to Silksong. Bananza could deserve it, it's a genuinely unique game, but it's probably not considered mature enough by the judges to win, especially not after astrobot won before. They probably want something more mature now.
But something like Death Stranding 2 absolutely fails to Expedition 33. Journos also super love Hades 2. But if Death Stranding 2 won't win, and Silksong won't win, and Bananza won't win, then it would probably be Expedition 33. Maybe Hades 2 could win, but it doesn't have film industry bullshit like mocapped actors and shit.

I still think Silksong should win though. But honestly, all of these games, except Death Stranding, deserve awards.
It's an extremely strong year for videogames.
