A lot of CRT TVs have geometry issues, and PVMs/BVMs tend to have less geometry issues because they were made to a higher standard. They aren't always perfect.
No one was playing games on them back in the day because they were worth $$$$$$ but when they were replaced some of them made it out to the public via lot auctions or people took them home from their jobs, and so they are rare.
If you can get one cheap, go for it.
PC monitors are a very good compromise and you can get as good or better images out of them than PVMs and are more plentifully available. You can't just plug a console into them (except for Dreamcast) but you can do cool things on them with a retrotink or a mister or something. You can also just plug a HDMI>VGA into them and run modern PC games on them, and it will still be better than any 666fps bullshit gaming monitor you have. Aim for getting a 19" one because they can take higher resolutions. I'm using one right now and it takes 1600x1200@75 and frankly just looks incredible.
Motion clarity is an underrated quality of them and is in my opinion the reason you should get them. You just don't know what you're missing until you see it in person.
