While I enjoy souls games, I'm honestly not that great at them, not awful but probably not good enough to "carry" a team. The concept of Nightreign sounded interesting, but I felt like it would be annoying in 2 ways, either I would be the turbo shitter of the group, or I would be the mid level player carrying a bunch of literal retards. Both situations didn't sound fun. So dispute playing Fromsoft games since AC1, I skipped this.

I wish there was an alternate singleplayer mode where you could explore & upgrade your character at your own pace. Yes that's basically just base elden ring at that point, but one of the things I like the most about Nightreign is that it makes me try out a bunch of different weapons and playstyles I otherwise rarely or never touches in the mainline souls games otherwise, not to mention the unique nightfarer abilities and nightlord bosses.

There is merit to this argument because objectively, the tier list puts Ironeye, Duchess, Wylder and Recluse as useful while Guardian and Revenant are useless. Raider and Executor are only useful in the hands of the most experienced players, and they're useless in the hands of anyone else.

Raider becomes total ass in depth 4-5 because damage is so obscene his passive is useless. Executor is a walking arcane stat, the parry is almost always worse than attacking. Revenant has always been a joke. Ironeye is braindead easy mode. Fromsoft is too dogshit too fix the game.

The woods are meant to be spooky. The apprehension is from what you don't see. Yes this only works once and sure, it's not actually scary, but it's what they were going for. Libra, conversely, is chaos incarnate. Bullet hell while giving you buffs and debuffs while summoning copies of you that attack him, you, and each other. It's pure, unbridled madness. Not spooky. Doesn't fit the woods.

Raider is really good in 4 and 5 but you have to use fists. Raider with Iron Balls and Star Fists can still put in work, but if you're using any colossal set, just throw it in. Not worth it, his entire tanking play style becomes useless unless you're using the fist skill which guarantees you will not die. Wylder has a built in one hit protection ability that works against most attacks but you can get combo'd after it activates and get fucked anyway, and then once that's gone, you've just gotta play as your average dark souls guy except with a grappling hook and a pile bunker which USED to do obscene damage, but in 4 and 5, it's just a free attack you get to use that might stance break the boss. Guardian can still block in those depths but holy shit the early game with him is so bad and even if you succeed in getting good gear, you're guardian. The fight will make Monster Hunter times blush.

I don't think so because the woods acted as a build-up towards the Manse where the main boss, Midra, was. And having Libra in the woods, which is a boss that arguably has way more going for it that Midra, would take away attention from that. We know for a fact Caligo and Heolstor were dug up from their archives, but I really don't think Libra was especially with his gimmicks and how his madness works differently than every other character in ER.

The issue with Guardian is that his whole role is to forgive team mistakes, but the team cannot afford to MAKE mistakes in the depths.
I hate this because I have absolute godrolls for Guardian relics and depth relics, but I can only use him on Augur (because ED Augur doesn't care who you are) and I never roll Augur.

The night 1 and 2 gameplay got stale after a while. I wish the runs had more enemies and equipment variety. They should add in the rest of the equipment, mobs and bosses from Elden Ring, and maybe some more Dark Souls stuff. Thank god for that because ED Augur is one of my least favorites in depths. ED Augur, ED Gladius, and ED LIbra are the three hardest but they nerfed ED Augur recently and I haven't fought him since then. ED Bugs are apparently way harder than they used to be but I've not seen them either, just normal bugs. ED Libra at D3 was my closest win in any souls game where every single player had to carry, and then ED Gladius at 4 has just been an instant loss whenever it showed up. I'm in 5 now and only did 3 games, it's barely different from 4, did one game there with erg against Heolstor and we got god rolls but the fight took forever and got close at points. Last I checked, most players over there split between D5 and D3 runs and I don't blame them because D3 does strike a tolerable balance between all the adjusted parameters to make the mode fun to replay. As is, I don't really have any desire to touch D5 again since there's other games I gotta play and all that.

On release it was fine, if a little light on content, but:

New stuff ported into the randomization pool is the only way for this kind of game to have legs, even just a few more weapons and mook & evergaol bosses for each everdark/deep of night update would have done wonders

The fact that DoN just slapped another relic grind on players was just a huge slap in the face. Especially when they don't even give you deep presets or a good normal relic night invader preset.
Running nightlords over and over pre-DoN (Base/EDs) was the peak of my fun I had with this game. Depth kind of peaks at D3. D4 and 5 are just kinda ass and character balance goes out the fucking window

bro what. the game literally has balancing for all party sizes.
solo has gigabuffed rune drops and allows you to buy extra lives at merchants. it also has the heaviest hp downscaling for bosses, so you can comfortably solo them. people literally argue that this is the easiest way to play the game.
duo has buffed rune drops and hp downscaling for bosses. i regularly play duos with a friend and it is absolutely, consistently easier than trios with one random.
trios has no buffed rune drops and enemy hp downscaling, because all three niggas actually contributing dmg absolutely melts any boss in no time.
as for metas, there's really only the evergaol relic, but even that's not strictly required. it's common to find players running it, but it's literally a purchasable, guaranteed relic from the shop and chances are your team wants to do gaols anyways because those are ez runes / passives.

The issue with night invaders is that there is no reliable relic for them. In the ideal world you run both invaders and gaols, but the gaols are available to everyone without any hard limiters. Hopefully the ED Heolster relic is yellow and supports those.

Devs got lazy with the variety. They forget that these live-service games exist solely on the frequency of new content.
Every single month there should have been something new, lined up in the pipeline 6 months prior and good to go.
Instead we get classic Fromsoft radio-silence, which is fine for their next big game, but totally unacceptable for a game like NR.

the reason ED bugs in depths is so much harder than ED bugs regularly is because you can't just burst down faurtis first and gnoster 2 seconds later leaving you to just deal with animus possessed faurtis for the entire battle

at D3+ there's a good choice you won't even kill one of the 2 fast enough to avoid animus' hammer of dawn which is all but guaranteed to kill someone

Revenant's necromancy earmarks her as being very strange given her FAI focus, but her actually walking around isn't necessarily any stranger than glintstone sorcerers being able to transpose their souls between bodies by ritualistic suicide with a piece of glintstone crystal, or whatever Ranni did to move her soul to a doll
I can hear you complaining that's sorcery and not incantations or necromancy but Elden Ring also heavily implies and then later outright states sorceries and incantations come from the same magical source and there's no real differentiation between the two at a deep enough level, so I would guess Revenant is a Faith version of something normally done by Intelligence casters

I thought best case was we'd have a rogue like with lots of randomness leading to DLC that could add more world variation, characters and stuff. Instead every run is nearly the same. The map is basically static. The 6 night 1/2 random events are tied to specific night lords for no reason. Most seeds are basically identical. Even fucking POIs are always the same like wtf

Deep of the night is just not fun.
Get 1shot by the most random things, the additional effects, negative trait, and relic effects are just tedious, the new red weapons are lame, and dont properly counterbalance the bloated enemy HP.

Just remove the negative effects that every weapon has, and port over more enemies. Also a PvP mode would be appreciated.

He's pretty terrible every time you have to fight a golem, death rite bird, gargoyle etc. He also falls off hard in longer fights because the enemies bleed resist goes up exponentially. Being able to kill phase 1 fast doesn't really help if your damage nosedives in phase 2, especially since phase 2 is where you NEED to be able to kill fast.

Even when the enemy is weak to bleed and frost, his damage is still a drop in the bucket next to a fully-built Recluse.

The solution is Guardian, Ironeye, Recluse. Recluse does all the damage, Guardian just tanks, and Ironeye marks and fills any gaps.

And before you say just replace the guardian with another melee, the entire point is that the guardian doesn't dodge. When you dodge, either the recluse gets hit or the enemy moves outside her shotgun range.

Tanking actually REPLACES stagger. If the enemy isn't moving in the first place, it doesn't need to be knocked down for the Recluse to murder it. And anyway, Guardian shockwaves are better at maintaining the stagger bar, while the ironeye marks going off every time the Recluse sneezes will result in a knockdown faster than anything wylder can do, and ironeye ult is just better than Wylders

Wylder retards are actually what ruined the game for me, I can't get rid of them no matter what and they do not contribute anything of value, so I finally had to just quit.

Guardian is perfectly fine in Libra. Normal is actually one of his better matchups, but even everdark is fine.

Caligo you're mostly right. The only thing he can potentially do during the fight is revive his retard teammates. I have carried a depth 3 or 4 caligo run doing exactly that, reviving the retarded Ironeye and Revenant who couldn't stay alive for more than 10 seconds. The fight lasted 20 minutes and I had 10 revives. But ideally you're right and he shouldn't be much use during the fight. However, running the guardian/ironeye/recluse team comp is still ideal. You will get to the fight much better prepared because you had an easier time during the days, and the recluse should do enough damage that it doesn't matter.

every single ED libra fight I've had with a guardian was a complete and utter shitshow because the guardians can't kill the condemned fast enough, let alone that one guardian condemned that's just perma behind a shield

and for ED caligo again, he just doesn't do enough damage and eventually dies to frostbite procs because ED caligo is peak fromsoft boss design, absolute best fucking boss since DS2 especially when she just keeps flying away while unavoidable frostbite stacks on you
