If Metroid is supposed to take inspiration from Alien, how come Alien Isolation feels almost nothing like Metroid Prime? Alien Isolation feels almost like a horror game where Metroid Prime feels more like an adventure game.

Metroid Prime actually takes after Zelda Ocarina of Time. It's the original Metroid that took after Alien. Super Metroid was good for it too.

visual inspirations ≠ gameplay inspirations

OK that makes more sense. I just recalled Metroid being a series that took its inspiration from the Alien movies. So in my mind the whole series was like that, but in reality it's just the NES-SNES Metroid games.

There's a lot of interesting stuff to gauge about the games. The name comes from combining Metro and Android, the level design being very sim-samey homogenized easy to get lost in chutes and tunnels. The boss monster Ridley is a callback to the director of the Alien movies, Ridley Scott.

there's really no inspiration other than a couple character names and the very broad idea of "person alone on alien planet".

Fusion is the most similar to the Alien movies and steals the overall plot and many story beats from the first two movies and its better for it.

And now I will never not have this in the back of my head when I see the name Metroid. That's actually pretty cool.

Maybe I should give that a shot then. Fusion wasn't the most liked of the Metroid to my understanding because of complaints about it being too linear. Since I don't really care if a game is linear or open as long as the game is good, I'll give it a shot now that I'm thinking about the game again.

Fusion is my favorite, I highly reccomend it. Every Metroid game is basically linear, Fusion is just narrative driven.
A lot of Alien movies go for the action / adventure side of the franchise, while others go for the horror side, like the first one.
I dont really think theres any horror in metroid games, I feel like they were more inspired by the adventure / action. But that's hard to say, first Metroid you were 100% lost in an alien planet, there wasnt even a map, maybe people of 80s though it was pretty terrifying

Nah the whole franchise is very much classic sci-fi horror. Fusion, Prime 2, and Other M being the most.

You're literally in a lost precursor world in the first 3 fucking games. It's very inspired by the Space Exploration movies from the 70s and 80s Super is literally a 2D space ruin exploration simulator like those movies including the tension and the spooks. It just doesnt Go for gratuitous nudity or fanservice like them with all the weird ass alien rapes going on. Thankfully Samus is a decent gal.
Kinda miss the gratuitous porn skits happy in those movies.

They love having horror elements while also refusing to scare anyone over the age of 5.
Metroids, X, and Phazon concoctions like the Ing are all horrifying on paper.
