Space monkeys and witches are total niggers, but the game is still a ton of fun.

I think it's one of the weaker Sam entries, but it's also honestly my favorite. I guess it came in a special time for me and I replayed it a lot. It's also a pretty easy game on Serious, so you can play it without any fatigue, and I love the ending.

The tone of the game was perfect. Sam4 leaned a little lighter and was worse for it. Nobody asked for Rodriguez or Carter.

I actually think this is by far the most fun game in the series.

I played the intro/tutorial and uninstalled right after. Truly fucking awful. I can't believe they 1:1 copied the intro mission for Vermintide 2.

It's really great as a prequel. It was very clever for them to repurpose their cancelled military shooter into the first few levels of a Sam prequel where it seems like he's more of just a normal dude until the hordes really start ramping up and it becomes clear that he's actually the most capable man on Earth.
It actually bugs me that Sam 4 is then a prequel to the prequel and ruins this aspect of it by having him deal with much worse shit well before he's just part of a disposable crew sent on a desperate mission to dredge up anything useful for a last ditch defense from Mental.

m8 he's wearing his signature t-shirt while the rest of the crew wears military gear

lore-wise he's also the captain who awoken Mental and who since fights his hordes non-stop, he was never just a regular soldier

3 never mentions the whole spaceship captain origin of Sam. It feels like it was meant to be retconned out before 4 brings it back.
You could also excuse the T-shirt and jeans as the military loosening standards and just taking any warm body when there's barely anyone left.
I just really get the impression that 3 is meant to be an origin. It works better that way than it just being another day on the job for Sam. He reacts to too many things like they're the first time he's seeing them.

Ngl, I basedfaced a bit that they remembered that stupid bit of lore and even put it into a cutscene. I have no idea what somebody not familiar with Sam would even think about it.

I actually think Sam 4 is an absolute masterpiece when it comes to weapon design, enemy design, encounter design. The shooting has never felt so good. It's just a shame that, you know, it's a glitchy, laggy mess.

Enemies are mostly solid from a gameplay perspective, but most of the new ones' visual and audio design lack the the kind of staying power as the old ones. It's a similar situation in 2.
Another thing I have a problem with in 4 is how the encounters are a bit sullied by having NPCs around that draw aggro from enemies and shoot at them. Having the waves of enemies in all directions focused only on you feels like something that shouldn't be fucked with.

Some of the graffiti alludes to it.

I dunno, I love how they just added fucking vampires who turn into a bat swarm. The big explodey blobs are pretty memorable, plus I like most of the classic enemies' redesigns.

Oh, I agree 100%. I want to handle everything by myself, as that is the point of a Sam game, IMO. Thankfully, there are enough good battles where you are alone. Like the quarry fight, and the last level.

I wonder if there's a mod to remove allies, but I'm also afraid some battles might get very hard without them.

The VR-only game elaborates on the spaceship part.

However, the inconsistent tech is still one of my biggest issues with the series.
On one hand you have spaceships, interstellar travel, space mining colonies, shockwave-emitting laser swords and whatnot but then you're mostly running around with current day ARs and pistols through locations that seem to be stuck in the 1960s, with soviet-era refrigerators, old radiators, radios that look like your grandma would consider ancient, etc.
>b-but there's lore about how the polyps made all the new tech go haywire and hijacked it!!!1!
Then why aren't there any infested hovertanks or futuristic helicopters?
Why are there pretty much no modern buildings or civilian things in the game? Fuck, even my backwater town looks like the city in Talos Principle 2 in comparison.

They did it so they could reuse assets, obviously. But it's funny to me that another FPS about Earth getting invaded that came out in 2020 did the same thing, but not to cut corners. Doom Eternal has Earth levels that look suspiciously like modern day Earth, there's even a contemporary looking cargo plane alongside futuristic mechs and other high-tech stuff.

I don't particularly like the design role gadgets have in 4/SM. Many are so powerful that they're essentially fancy 'skip gameplay' buttons, which I don't care for. And casual players tend to just hoard scarce consumables, even if they're struggling.

I just don't use gadgets, they're obviously broken. Or use them and reload. The only exception is SM's final boss fight, I had to use scooter because I was getting destroyed by Brand on Serious and I was getting frustrated.

The only one I liked was the hoverboard in SM since it was still something "interactive".
The rest should've been more like, I dunno, mines, energy walls/fences and the like, not shit like the nuke or black hole.
Also, those shouldn't have been side quest rewards in the first place since whatever you fought to get them was usually harder than whatever you were going to use the gadgets on.
Instead, those should've rewarded you exclusively with skillpoints or early weapon mods.

I’m playing SS2 and I’m wondering why there’s like six variants of “melee enemy that charges at you” in the first world
I thought the Pumpkin men in TSE felt a bit ridiculous since I can’t tell how they function any different from Kleers but this is getting absurd
Anonymous No.723223665 [Report]

There's a lot of redundancy in 2.
The kung-fu zombies for example are basically just reskinned Kleers.
