I liked it a lot, finished it a few times. It's a simple, fun platformer.

This game looks like Mario 64, but with crocodiles instead of Mario.

Basic 3D collectathon platformer that originally came out on the PS1 and somehow sold really fucking well.
Boss fights and controls (which were tank controls in the original) were absolute trash, but the rest of the game is fairly charming but forgettable.

It’s not abysmal but neither is it particularly good. I bought it because I played it on a demo disc and wanted to Mario 64 but only had a PlayStation.

Tank controls are good after you get used to them, some players are just really low skill so they cannot adapt.

Tank controls are unironically part of the SOUL of Croc just like Tomb Raider and removing them makes the game pointless. The platforming is designed around the shitty tank controls. Removing them makes the game too easy

Something about PlayStation update rules; it was easier to just release a new game.

>So why the new name? Great question! When we initially launched the Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster, we didn’t include enough trophies to qualify for the Platinum trophy on PlayStation. And it’s not permitted to simply fix this with a patch. So we had to come up with a smarter solution: release a new version of the game with a comprehensive trophy set, including 16 new Trophies and the highly coveted Platinum Trophy."

Its a pretty mediocre to forgettable game that only got remembered because it sold a decent amount to fill the void at least a little bit that not having super mario 64 on the ps1 created.
People make fun of banjo kazooie for only selling just as many copies and wonder why it gets discussed far far far far far far more. Its simple, banjo was good. Croc was bargin bin slop parents picked up for their kid who played like 3 levels and forgot about it

Achievements were a really really cool idea when they were brand new on the 360 and you also got into that one program thst gave discounts when you got enough achievement points
But i don’t think anyone cares anymore and haven’t cared for like 15 years.
Im going to assume croc only has mostly boring achievements you unlock via just 100% the game anyways.
I like the ones that make you do essentially a challenge run to get

I had Spyro, Crash and Croc as a kid and Spyro was the only one I ever liked enough to complete. It's also the only 3D platformer on the PS1 I'd rate higher than Mario 64 and as good as Banjo Kazooie (Tooie isn't as good as Spyro 1 but then again neither is Spyro 2 and 3)

Aesthetically pleasing but pretty average platformer that kind of overstays its welcome and can be frustrating from time to time dealing with the slightly stitled camera and controls. Nothing special nowadays. Croc 2 has way too many gimmick levels and feels like they had to cut many corners just to get it out the door in time. Much more rough around the edges from what I remember of it. Love the glider/credits music though.

Compression is a lost art. Now instead of working black magic like that one company did to get RE2 down to 1/10th of its size to fit on an N64 cart back in 1999, companies compete to see who can waste the most fucking space possible.

Don't be fooled by anyone who says this isn't tank controls. The analog controls move you forward when you turn in any capacity, they are terrible to play.

Otherwise it's very repetitive, kind of boring. You have to dryhump enemies for hits to land so they can respawn 2 seconds later, it loves shutting doors in your face if you don't magically know the order to do things in, busts your balls on life drops, eh. Nice art though. Surprisingly nice looking game.

Extremely basic platformer with really good music. Original had tank controls, new version "fixes" this, but now you're overtuned and the game is piss easy. There's some neat bonus stuff if you're into that shit, I guess. No reason to not just pirate that PC version that fixed the controls years prior.

One of the few early 3D platformers that worked, on tank controls at that. Croc has a little bit of wiggle control in the air, but this shouldn't be a problem as most platforming challenges are straightforward jumps with a precise timing at worst. Pretty basic game, I played it a ton when it came out as a kid, but never beat it more than once, and it's not that impressive to want to replay today.
