I sort of get that feel with my created characters (I like to write them backstories), so I imagine that feeling would be massively amplified if I actually made a vidya character.
That being said, I would also be aware that anything I make that becomes even slightly popular is going to have porn made of it, so I wouldn't mind. I would also make a few characters that are specifically to my tastes and quietly hope that people draw porn of them.

Japanese barely draw doujins of the most popular IPs, because they would get into trouble legally if they did. Stuff like Blue Archive is accepted because they're allowing it.

The comics you find online require going to specific conventions where the artists hope to get noticed, either making a living out of it or hoping to make a name before jumping to real manga.

In the USA there are no such conventions, and artists rely entirely on internet platforms to sell their stuff. I think that's how they're able to get away with drawing popular IPs from companies that wouldn't approve, such as Pokemon, Nintendo etc.

As for why those companies haven't gone after Patreon, I think they either don't know about it yet, or they're waiting.
