I essentially stopped after the PS2. FF12, while great, was clearly not going down the path I wanted them to take and I realized they were FAR too stupid to recognize this error so after beating it I essentially took the entire company off my radar forever.

Why is it so hard to just port Duodecim to modern platforms?

It's like Sega performed some sort of black magic ritual and transferred their truly abysmal ability to make terrible decisions onto Square Enix instead.

Yeah, they were banking hard on Wilds being just as much of a success as World without realizing those new fans they picked up DIDN'T want more realistic graphics or more casualization or a "story". The entire reason World worked out was the marketing blitz. I don't think they thought it was shit. I think, like RE6, they thought making it "bigger" and "more accessible" is just always a good thing that = more money. Just like how they took RE5's success was the higher action focus and the set pieces when it was actually "I can play RE4 with my friends! :D" and it sold in spite of being more action focused.

World worked because the first few monsters were braindead, it was the first big console release in years, it didn't have the stupid grind of early games, and it had great marketing. And these morons thought it succeeded because of cutscenes and more open maps and casualization.
