Nioh 3 thread
What are your opinions based on what we have seen so far? I'm not liking the open field approach and the Ninja Style to be honest.

Disappointed that they didn't try to revamp the loot system. While I don't think it actively ruins the game or anything, the somewhat pointless loot is easily the weakest part of the franchise. There really is no reason to look at gear beyond the main damage/armour stat prior to NG+3 or whenever you start to drop items with grace set bonus or stats with the star symbol next to them.

I don't know, it's just kinda sad that they had to pivot back to Nioh after everything else they've made since 2 flopped.
Definitely not day 1, I'll wait for reviews and gameplay videos.

Considering everything they have done lately other than Nioh 2 has been either bad or mid. I fully expect them to fuck this game up as well. Probably great combat but the world and everything other combat being shit.

Since this is a Nioh thread, might as well talk about SoP. I've started it a few days ago and just beat Ifrit/Shiva. What is the correct gameplay to boss fights? They're so aggressive and most combo abilities or class abilities are just too slow, often you can barely do 2 basic hits, making them unnecessarily long fights IMO. From what I've unlocked, the paths I've seen is either Swordknight with auto-parry, Paladin with reflect-block and being a passive bitch waiting for the boss to kill himself, not my style and probably too slow, which is my issue, at least early games anyway. Those or being a Caster cuckold. The general speed of attacks and dodge feel too slow to properly play aggressive compared to Nioh 2. There is also the issue of allies messing with the enemies targetting, which throws me off often enough, but I'm not going to ditch them for boss fights, at least not for 1st playthrough anyway.
I like the weakness system and combo strings, though so far I'm just unga-bunga'ing with a guaranteed knockdown ability for normal fights, and I'd imagine it'll be just like Nioh where the combat degenerates into spamming the same attack over and over. I'm prioritizing equips with the basic stats, Str/Agi/Int/Res, as I assume they have a good weight on the damage formulas. What are the must have buffs to use?

I hate the stupid mode switching which the entire game seems to be designed around. Probably yet another Team Ninja game I'm gonna skip sadly. Rise of the Ronin and Ching Chang both sucked balls.
Anonymous No.723244639 [Report] >>723245460
I actually liked the “open field” approach in the demo. It avoided all the pitfalls of most open world games, it really just felt like big Nioh mission. Basically just like if there was 2 or 3 missions that led to same end boss, and you can choose to do 1-3 of them. And considering how often Nioh blatantly re-used mission areas for side quests there’s really no downgrade there either.

I am curious if it can hold up for whole game though. Games very often front load their best bits, so I’m kind of expecting late game zones to be barren open fields with very little level design. But we’ll see.

Ninja mode is cool…. But if it means losing stances for half the weapons then it absolutely was not worth it. My biggest complaint about demo was making martial arts have awful direction-based inputs since it made using them while moving impossible (or accidentally doing one when you wanted to just do a regular attack) but apparently they said they are changing this, so I guess I wasn’t only person who complained on survey.

I pre-ordered Nioh 3 Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam. I love how Nioh 3 is massively reducing the RPG elements and massively increasing the ACTION elements of the Nioh formula. Team Ninja is taking a huge shit in the mouth of all the Nioh 2 subhuman fanboys who claimed for years that "Nioh 2 perfected the Nioh formula". Imagine getting refuted and BTFO'd by the developers themselves, it is so humiliating for them.

>Leveling up attributes reduced and the weapon scalings simplified
>The amount of returning Nioh 2 dedicated Samurai weapons with weapon stances system reduced to only 7 from 11.
>All the new dedicated Ninja Style weapons are Ninja Gaiden inspired and focus heavily on action and aerial movement.
>Switching between Samurai Style and Ninja Style is completely optional
>Ninja Style can dispel Yokai Realm
>Team Ninja confirmed you can beat the entire game as a Ninja Style purist
>Onmyo magic completely gutted and simplified
>Living Weapons are back and stronger than ever

I can't wait to enjoy Nioh 3, the game that made Nioh 2 irrelevant and avenged Nioh 1 bros. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Team Ninja.

You can play plenty aggressive in SoP, I'm not sure what you mean by slow. Daggers and fists are very speedy so maybe try those out. I recommend playing the game solo as well. STR is for physical hp damage while AGI does better break damage and more crits I think. INT affects elemental damage, you can look at what each combo ability uses and I think the game has a section where it tells you what all the stats do. Your three main defensive options are soul guards, parries (timed blocks), and dodges. You can switch to your second job if you're low on break gauge because each job has a second bar. Each weapon has an "after parry" combo ability that I recommend making use of. Like for katana, you can set Garo as the after parry ability and then immediately go into a senshin stance combo after parrying. Later on, you can get skills that restore MP/HP after parrying which is very good as well. I think Knight has some HP healing in it's tree by default.

Ninja style is ok as an accessibility option that shouldn't be used by the real gamers. Ninja weapons never deserved the 3 stances to begin with.
Open field is ok.
Simplified level design of Crucibles is bad.
Ugly graphics and shit performance are bad.
Low difficulty that was reduced even more after the alpha feedback is bad.

>using allies

ditch those fuckers. As for how to approach bosses, the typical thing to do is to wait for them to attack and then dodge/block and then attack yourself, and return yourself to neutral before they attack again, so you can properly react.

To solve your slow attack problem, there are lots of ways to speed it up. The number one way is that you can canceling your skill attacks by chain cancelling them (changing jobs). After blocking or soul shielding or even chain cancelling, you can press forward and attack to near instantly start attacking. Use lightbringer to not only get iframes and restore your break gauge, but to use it as another cancel option. Also further in the game you can start stacking haste, which among the other broken things in the game, reaaaaaaally makes your more effective in combat.

Thanks lads. I actually knew most of these stuffs, as I did in fact not skip the hints stuff, even went to that menu myself, except for these which are new for me:
>skill attacks by chain cancelling them (changing jobs)
Though the canceling was only through Soul Shield's copied abilities
>lightbringer to restore break gauge
Granted I don't have Break issues so far, but good to know.

Yeah, probably going to take me 2 to 4 main missions to unlock VK. I don't even know where to start for the Ninja unlock, probably through Thief.

Guess I just need to play more to download the game properly. Had the same issue with Doom Eternal, got my shit slapped until I completely understood the flow of things then it became easy and smooth real fast.
Anonymous No.723248272 [Report]

oh yea I forgot about copy abilities, they are more niche but yea, any ability you copy you can instantly chain into from any attack. There's also a job that specializes in that but I just double up on fists
Anonymous No.723248854 [Report] >>723249278
>>723248019
For your first play-through, just focus on leveling each job and unlocking them all as you go. They all have combo and command abilities that are usable across every job so there's no reason not to. You don't really get into all the build making stuff until a lot later. The fire/ice blob boss is one of the worst bosses in the game by the way. There's some much better ones later.
Anonymous No.723249278 [Report]
>>723248854
Yeah, I'm doing just that, leveling just enough to reach the unlocks then moving to the next job. Having some affinity also let's me level multiple jobs, so I'm also prioritizing that on my gear. I mentioned VK just because the name caught my attention while going through the trees, lel.

Since I've actually played the game I know that the open field and Ninja style are both implemented extremely well and will introduce a brand new degree of depth and options to the series, no matter what schizo doomposters want to frame or gaslight on.
>>723248019
Spend your Anima Shards. Levelling and unlocking jobs is effortless through the amount of Anima Shards you get from dismantling all the accessories you find. You should have auto-dismantle on to dump everything just below the level of the mission you're on. As said, get used to Chain Cancel to significantly open up the flow of the game and combat, holding a direction when doing it adds a dash for mobility. Attacking after Soul Shield is significantly faster, landing later Combo Abilities in your string on bosses are a matter of setting them up either via positioning or staggering from breaking weakpoints, but you always have access to directional attacks and After Parry abilities. The sooner you learn to weave Parries in with Soul Shields the better. You can also cancel animations at any time with Command Abilities, which includes Lightbringer, but that specifically can also cancel the Break state in a pinch.

Only in the first playthrough does Soul Shield overshadow it due to Break management being more forgiving, but even then having direct access to an immediate Combo Ability punish is extremely effective. It only gets far better when Break becomes more important to manage since you don't spend any on it, it gives a Break recovery speed buff and you can add several other buffs for HP, MP and damage from Parrying thanks to Jobs or gear/Master Point effects.

Parrying is very good for the combo ability counter alone but it's also very good for hp/mp restoration affects activated by parrying. It's very strong for jobs like samurai and knight. Each defensive option is good and has it's while it also depends on what job you're using and how you're building them. Dodging play-styles are very good on some job setups for example.

When I played the first game I thought it was pretty good, but hated the loot shit, and I do mean I thoroughly hate it. The second game I was perplexed they managed to improve the gameplay so much, there's just so much depth to everything, but they still managed the continue with the loot shit. God I fucking hate having to select what I want to buy and what may be worth keeping, but anyway I just deal with it as I was enjoying the game. Then I played Ronin, and I just hated the open world, I absolutely can't stand it, I didn't even give it a big chance to be honest, maybe it gets better but I just don't care enough to even deal with it. If the third Nioh is open world like Ronin I won't even give it a chance, fuck this shit. The level design in Nioh isn't as bad as people say but it certainly isn't great either, if they make it open world it's officially down the shitter and virtually no level design.

My only issue with Nioh is grinding for ethereals. Forging can't make them so you have to farm for them or you need inheritance which was way, way too rare. Took way too much time. You can see all the build potential but it's too much effort to get it. Hopefully they just let you of craft ethereals and select graces or at least make it easier to farm them. Farming for a Yaksani Magatama with the right grace shouldn't be a thing. Just let me pick the grace or make it something I can reasonably pay to change.

Where did this meme come from? You can look up her skirt using the photo mode and see panties with no visible bulge. It's a girl. Always has been. Always will be.

It's like Mario 64 or Mario Odyssey where all the objectives of all the missions in one region are located in one giant map. The same way Oddessy has a ton of different power moons you can get in one world, Nioh 3 lets you do all the missions all at once.

It's just more structured open areas that are generally smaller and more dense with stuff. Essentially what Elden Ring did and not a "sandbox" style open world like what a lot of western games use. From the alpha, the scale of the open fields seem smaller and even more dense than ER but I can't say for sure how big the entire map of the full game will be. It also has main mission levels built into the world itself which is are essentially the main missions of the previous Nioh games.

It isn't open-world. It "opens up" by becoming literally linear hallways to linear structured levels/castles, lol.

Team Ninja is trying to scam open-world idiots out of their money.

alpha was great and it seems like they're addressing most of my issues with it. it sucks people lack an open mind when it comes to the changes though. I probably wont get it at launch since we have no idea how the pc performance will be

That webm proves me right. In Nioh 1 they actually attack you and target you, the player uses parries, attacks etc. to manage the situation and beat them. In the Nioh 3 webm, they attack empty air, stand around, do nothing.
