This happened because video game writers are inspired by other video games unlike every other medium. And let's be honest, video game writing isn't groundbreaking to put it lightly. So they reference the most influential game i.e. TLOU as the bible of a well written video game.

Also to add. Most games do this. You can only tell so many stories before no story is original. Then someone comes up with an original idea and then that gets used, until the idea is no longer original.
When I was growing up, most games were platformer, with a mix of military or goofy cartoon characters.
Then it went into games where the world is ending and only the hero can save it.
Then it went into, a distinct enemy is harming a very specific place and people are sent in to stop that enemy.
The saving of the damsel has always been a thing so didn't really want bringing it up.
Then we come to everything was a dream.
Next was protag turns into the villain.
Rinse and repeat when the new generation comes around.
