Nero was a cool kid. He had his moments like taunting Agnus and flipping the Savior. He's annoying when yelling "KYRIEEEEEE" but other than that he was fine. People were worried about him replacing Dante, but Dante is so good in DMC4 that people just sorta forget to hate Nero. DMCV made him even better. If they make DMC6 with Nero while Dante is lost in hell, i wouldn't mind, unless they change him somehow.

I still can't quite get a feel on how it will feel like to play the game, so I think it will be quite interesting to play it for the first time and see where the differences lie. It seems like it is bridging the gap between 2 and 3, but also adding a lot of new mechanics and pushing it in a different direction from both 2 and 3, so it will be interesting to play for sure and not just what we're already used to. Hopefully it will be good.

A very easy tweak is making enemies killed by UTs not drop essence, since essence isn't nearly as important in this game for general progression. There's no real decision of "should I use this for a powerful move or is it better to keep the points/heal myself?"

I think finding the other 2 better is valid, but you can't say they're direct replacements, you know? Kind of like how I like 2 the most but I wouldn't recommend 2 over 1 if someone is saying they value exploration a lot in their action games. Ninja Gaiden has a lot of variety, honestly. 3 is more like a blockbuster action movie in its story and structure, plus the combat changes discussed to death. I wouldn't call the action movie feel a positive usually, but after the RE changes only a few annoying aspects remained, the worst was purged, so it's a decent experience. My second favorite.

I'm not quite sure how the regaining your health back mechanic works from seeing footage of the game being played

I recently played NG3RE for about 100 hours doing pretty much everything from UN runs with every character, ninja trials, chapter challenges with Ryu, and now going back to NG1 and 2 I find that they genuinely don't control well enough for me to enjoy them as much. The movement is so rough and inaccurate, there is very noticeable input delay, the characters just don't move well enough. 2 feels especially bad at this. I am probably the only one who feels this way but I think I may have to stick to 3RE, the gameplay mogs the others too hard.

I'm usually very sensitive to input lag from years of quake but I haven't noticed that playing a bunch of NG2 on xenia.
NG2B I didn't get input lag but there was definitely something wrong with input buffering.

Movement definitely has a learning curve I haven't crested. Seemed worse in NG2B than NG2 but that could be placebo. I preferred NG1's roll to NG2's step/dash. I think just the way it flowed into windmill slash just made it feel a bit more intuitive. Just moving around in NG2 never quite goes in the direction I want it to. It doesn't happen in combat due to magnetized attacks but it makes something as simple as climbing a damn ladder feel like pulling teeth.

I haven't gotten around to playing NG3 yet.

It's not input lag, 2's attacks and movement is just higher commitment and 1 is even more so, if Ryu does something he's probably gonna be stuck doing that. 3 is by far the fastest in terms of your characters moveset, you basically move as fast as you press on the controller, so it feels insanely snappy, arguably too much according to some. The slide is just a nicer movement than the stepping dash in 2 for me. The stepping motion felt sort of clunky to me and strange coming from a master ninja like Ryu. The slide has some more movement to it. I can't explain it well, I just like it more than 2's. When I first discovered you could double flying swallow into a gleam into an izuna drop in NG2 I creamed my pants. But you definitely give something up to get that much pacing in the combat.
NGB in comparison has a very lean "less is more" flow of combat. Even the obnoxious invisible blocking kind of works in a weird way. When you have the blocking and fairly short combos requiring shuriken cancelling to maintain pressure you end up with a nice ebb and flow of combat.

I think people have been saying it was so awfully terribly irredeemably bad so much that my expectations were that the story was actually going to be far far worse, several magnitudes and tiers worse than what the game actually ended up being, a pretty standard action game story.
I expected Ryu to just whine the entire game about muh murder, this doesn't happen at all. There's one scene after he gets BTFO because he literally killed Theodore right in front of Canna and he feels terrible about killing a small child's father right in front of her, but otherwise he just keeps on being a super ninja who doesn't give a fuck and pursues his mission with dogged determination.

One of the main themes of the game seems to be family so I don't think it's that bad that one of the villains had some shallow jealousy over his chadly brother. It felt more like an excuse to me so that he could make use of LoA's resources to do crazy shit. For me, the worst part of the story was that some of the scenes with Canna and Ryu were way too sappy, and Mizuki was a unmemorable. I wanted to see more Irene. She had a nice little scene with Ayane.

I think it's yet another example of 3's bad rep haunting RE. Because in OG 3 you had the game stopping everything to show you a random soldier begging for his life and the camera getting close and you walking slowly to take his life and stuff like that. It was REALLY heavy handed and made the game much worse with all of the action breaks. Their goal was mainly stop getting in the way of the action with the story reworks in RE, but as a result the heavy handed aspect was severely dialed back and the whole "you're no better than us" aspect remained mainly as cutscenes and it's not anywhere near insulting as it looks like it was judging from the videos of 3 OG I've seen (only played RE).
But, the story we did get in RE is really not bad at all. I actually quite like it and I think Ryu is really likable in it. I'd love to see Canna returning all grown up and with big tits in NG5.

I do think they took into consideration that 2 had a bigger focus on moves instead of combos, and most strings you used were short ones, and decoupled useful moves from strings. Like XX->XXX was very good in Razor's Edge, but the reason why it was very good was precisely the (->X) part, not all of the other stuff, so in 4 you do back forward X and you get that specific move immediately. It also goes around enemies blocking without using gleam meter. I think that's pretty cool.

I like Yakumo's edgy twink concept but the design is a bit too kpop. The idea of showing Ryu from a second person perspective is cool. Having you play as a new face and seeming like an absolute monster only to get fucking BODIED by ryu helps drive home just how strong ryu is, but I think they've screwed it up by going too far towards Yakumo. A couple chapters of yakumo, getting manhandled by Ryu, and then having either an even balance of Ryu and Yakumo, or a character switching mechnanic, or just letting you pick which one you want to play for each chapter, or a co-op AI buddy I'm going to be lynched for this would be fine.
