You can't deny the success though with Infamous and Uncharted selling more than Sly Cooper and Jak & Daxter.
Of the games listed i only played Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter so far but i can't deny the results and success.
The Jak & Daxter franchise was on a decline with the best selling game, that being the first, selling over 4mil copies and everything after that not being able to sell 2mil and the devs who made that franchise leaving Naughty Dog, this is why they made Uncharted instead. Uncharted going on to be a big seller for Sony with each mainline entry selling more copies than the first Jak & Daxter game..
And Sly Cooper was never a big hit with only one game selling over a million copies, that being the first game, with the trilogy selling only 2mil copies in total. Meanwhile Infamous managed to sell 2mil copies with its first game, and although Infamous 2 sold under a million, Second Son managed to beat the sales of every Sly Cooper game combined with 6mil copies sold.
As for Ratchet & Clank, they are the only one out of the PS2 trinity here that managed to do better than its respective PS3 follow up with consistent sales with only a few of the franchise's PS3 game selling under a million copies.
Meanwhile Resistance's sale for the first two games were decent with the first and second games selling 2mil and 3mil copies respectively the third game sold under a million and in total the Resistance trilogy never managed to outsell the Ratchet & Clank trilogy on PS2, the only one of the three PS3 IPs listed to do worse than its PS2 counterpart.

I love platformers but I still really enjoyed the uncharted trilogy and infamous 1 and 2 never played resistance. I dislike the direction modern playstation has taken but I think if all devs made were platformers we’d be complaining that the only games we get would be platformers.

I think it's because Sony managed to create a fanbase of people who want more down to earth and cinematic experiences.
I should know, one time i went onto Reddit (Big mistake i know.) and i noticed someone make a thread about they were new to PlayStation and wanted recommendations of Sony games to play.
I decided to make a list of Sony PlayStation classics such as Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, Patapon, LittleBig Planet, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, etc.
Wanna know what happened? My list got mocked, they called all the PlayStation classics and legacy franchises bad and they instead recommended The Last Of Us, and modern God of War pretty much calling them superior to everything else PlayStation has ever had.
The PlayStaton audience just doesn't want games like the PS2 platformers anymore and outright reject them in favor for what PlayStation is now.
Honestly i would not be surprised if the only way Sony will be willing to make money off of them again is giving Bandai Namco the rights to remake them for Switch 2. That's what they did with Patapon and Freedom Wars so why not at this point.

After the PS1 era Sony made sure to make sure they owned as many of the exclusives as they possibly can. It's a shame that so few of them managed to be big hits alongside their third party exclusives.

you know what is funny i just recently finished watching that dev commentary as they played Going commando and they did talk about the mindset they had with Resistance, the thinking was that the audiences who played Ratchet were growing up and that was what they believed people growing up with mascot platformers who bought the game every year would want instead of just another ratchet game

Fair. Although if i were Sony i would have outright bought out Crash and Spyro in time for the PS2 to keep them alive on PlayStation even if new dev teams would have to be made for them.
I'd also buy out Eidos to secure Tomb Raider as a PlayStation franchise along with all of their other games.
Same for Argonaut Games and Whoopee Camp for Croc and Tomba! respectively and made sure to give those IPs a chance to grow more on PS2.
