This shouldn't bother me at all, except the only person I know who does this consistently is genuinely insecure to the point it gets annoying and you can't take any of his given interests seriously. He'll wait for you to start talking sincerely about your own so he can mock them, but keep quiet about his own, except for 'safe' interests that nothing vulnerable about them. He's still my friend, everyone has flaws that's just one of his .But it's like he would sooner die than let anyone know he actually got immersed in a video game and must make sure everyone is aware he is playing a character similar to the one in the OP.

I just hate most custom characters other people make. It's almost always RGB hair + garish make-up + every tattoo/piercing/skin condition option + heterochromia of course. It looks nasty and always rubs me the wrong way when I play co-op in Monster Hunter or whatever.

I like to make Big Lenny as my playable character in every game I play. He was such a weird guy that putting him as the protagonist of anything makes it cool in a bizarre way. Also, it's pretty easy to make him.
