I've been practicing her a lot for my steel soul run and I'm at 9 wins in a row against her, she's not so bad once you learn how to fight her
you just need to space properly so you have time to react to her moves, you can't panic jump without risking getting punished, and you can't panic run away without risking her teleporting into you
otherwise you just need to dodge her risky moves and punish her on the moves that have safe windows. the best moves are the ones in phase 2 where she summons the generic black thread attacks, the delayed effect lets you get a few free hits in
also if you wall jump and then double jump she can only reach you with her black thread projectile moves, otherwise its a free heal up there

The Steel Soul only boss for those who can't be bothered to do it yourself, he's pretty bullshit considering his charge has no telegraph and he gives no Silk, good thing I left him for the end but he's certainly not worth playing the whole game to see

It's just the same shit as the Savage Beastfly already taught you: don't massively over-commit with the expectation the boss will kindly tell you when to dodge. There's a blatant rhythm to when an attack is about to happen and you just play around that, quickly making the boss no trouble at all.

She's hard in a way where you get punished for moving too much and you have to react to what she's throwing out. It's actually probably not a bad idea to keep her in Phase 1 for an attempt to simply get used to what she will be doing for the rest of the fight. When she starts throwing in more moves later on in the fight, it's about minding your positioning, getting to a safe spot, and seeing what she throws out after, or floating and making sure you're not 45 degrees from her so she can't anti-air you. If you dash away rather than trying to stand her ground, she usually teleports on you, so unless you can get used to when she does that (because that's also a way to get an attack or two off if you know where she's going to pop up), don't keep sprinting. You should realistically learn how to handle her first two phases without tools and then go nuts with them once she starts sending waves and making her big circle attacks. Regardless, she will keep resuming to her original phase attacks, so that'll be your safest bet.

Everyone woke up from the fucking Matrix and realized Hollow Knight was never really that good and was overhyped because of muh souls aesthetics. I've used all crests quite a lot and even done fresh playthroughs dedicated to some of the crests I didn't get the chance to use as much just so I'd get a feel for all of them in a bunch of situations.
All of them have stuff that's fun and they feel just different enough to be interesting. I'd probably say architect was my least used though.

I used Hunter a lot for the lore-accurate moveset. I used it on and off with Wanderer. I can see the appeal for all the crests except Beast.
I can understand getting extra damage and stuff from binding, and having to heal by attacking adds difficulty and skill expression. I also like using it with Flea Brew. But I could not get over how binding with Beast puts you in the air for a split second and fucks up your movement.

The Hunter crests' dash attack is a work of art. Silksong has probably my favourite movement from any game, of any time.

In Hollow Knight it felt like I should never be healing mid-battle. It was so awkward to heal in battle it felt like I was doing something wrong.
In Silksong, healing in battle feels expected and it makes the fights feel like a constant, tense back and forth. Being able to heal in the air is amazing

I got fatigued by the difficulty. I was making steady progress, but after a certain point I got tired of having to try that hard and just went back to other games.

Hunter definitely has the best gameplay. Thematically I really dig architect, but I had a hard time integrating moderate tool use into my playstyle in a fun way like I did clawline. Shaman being both the high range nail crest and the only crest with more than one silk slot felt a little backwards, ideally I'd want the silk skill crest to have a low range so that I have to intermittently dash in and out of melee, I feel like it encouraged me to be passive and avoidant, and you also just get it way too late. Witch is the other crest I really enjoyed, and it has the coolest animations, but having to take it off for lengthy platforming segments was inconvenient.

I don't get why the crests themselves don't have their own internal damage modifiers. I saw Wanderer having fast swings with short range, and immediately assumed the damage of the swings would be lower to compensate (apparently the range itself is even an illusion and actually matches Hunter's swing size). Same goes for Reaper, when it said "heavy blows" and I saw the swings were slower, I assumed they were also slightly stronger so you weren't actively gimping your DPS by using it.

I just finished the game today, and because no one asked here's my blog :)
My initial thoughts are that it is a great game, but my enjoyment of it wasn't that high. The nature of backtracking, platforming, and tedious run backs become tiresome really quickly, but that part is on me because I was just in it for the Soulslike bosses and don't care for the Metroidvania aspects. My main gripe was it felt like waves of high highs and alternating abysmal lows.
I kept going through the cycle of "I feel like I'm forcing myself to continue playing" and "damn this is amazing."
7/10 for my enjoyment
8/10 overall rating of the game

do more upgrades or try out new crests? I was also stuck on Bilewater area boss what with his weird ranged attacks and cancerous random enemies + platforming but after switching to Architect I beat it much more easily after a couple of tries and tons of tool spamming. The anti-maggot tool you can find in Purified Ducts could also make that area easier but I managed without it.
I was also stuck on the High Halls gauntlet for a while but I just got gud, especially against the mini-bosses. Projectiles help kill enemies faster, so Architect crest might be a solution here as well.
I don't even remember the rising lava platforming thing, so it must have been so easy I don't even remember it. Whenever I was stuck in lava sections I just used the tool that gives you extra lava/fire resistance and then they became a breeze.

It's for worldbuilding. Bilewater is hostile because the residents grew to detest the citadel for polluting their home with the waste from the putrified ducts. They strung up pilgrims and guards as effigies, and the structures the citadel had originally built were abandoned and left unmaintained for so long that they completely decayed.

From a game design perspective, it's a basic fakeout. From a story perspective, it's a reminder of the damage the citadel has done. Also the maggot water is barely even a debuff, easy to kill enemies respawn on room transitions, so you can just get rid of it with 10 seconds of silk grinding.

The game gets a lot of complaints for its design decisions, but people ultimately beat it, and time erodes away the memory of those annoying parts. I don't. It's just that people overvalue it. Hunter/Wanderer with longnail reach Reaper's range. And they don't have cast delay on the pogo, nor an inconsistent attack animation that can whiff either above or below the enemy, since Reaper does that upward/downward scythe pattern. So, would you suggest to people to play with a blue tool for range (that's not mandatory btw, just a QoL), or pick Reaper and have 40% less nail damage (maybe more if they really buffed Hunter as they say), 40% less silk regen due to the lower attack speed that your passive will barely make up to if you bind at the right time and don't lose the orbs or get hit early, and a delayed pogo that will end up with you being damaged a lot of times against any moving target.

Trust me, I used Reaper for the whole game, thinking I was using a sidegrade that was just slightly weaker. Later I found out how terrible it was when I was testing stuff after getting 100% and testing builds around. Reaper isn't just a crutch, playing with Reaper is like putting on the training wheels on your bike and also deflating the tires, then saying it's better that way because it's closer to the ground.

True, but you can figure that out pretty quickly since enemies take exactly the same amount of hits.

Where is the shortcut to watcher at the edge? I went to him but died, but now all paths to him are closed off. There's no way to get down the corridor over the sandworms so you can silksoar up to his location.

Figuring out it's weaker is easy, true. Figuring out it's 40% weaker than Wanderer and 50% weaker than a decent Hunter player that can keep the buff up for a while is another thing. If it was slightly weaker I wouldn't be here arguing about it, but if every interaction with an enemy and a boss takes 40-50% longer with Reaper, I think is very important for someone to know.

Following common logic, that just means you beat the game extra.
I've been using Reaper for most of the game and I haven't had much trouble. Most of the enemies who take too many damn hits are flyers who you can't really hit multiple times quickly anyway (unless you're pogoing) and the reach + reaper's extremely wide pogo makes those less frustrating to deal with. I did switch to Hunter for a couple of bosses though.

Grand Mother Silk yearns for motherhood and her "children", the weavers, all abandoned her. Hornet was just one of many weaver descendants that were captured (or attempted to) in order to rebuild her big family. This should be obvious from all the notes on the carriages in the Cradle and Lace's dialogue among other sources. Other weaver descendants are presumably also only made through weird crossbreeding, hence why all the carriages in the Cradle are for bugs that are weavers only in part.

I got double jump, killed these two dancing bosses in citadel, decided to explore a bit. And then I saved the game because it was late and I never came back.
I do not find this game particularly fun and that citadel is lamest garbage ever. For my last 5h+ of gameplay, all environments look the same. Act 1 had cool bosses and nice level variety. But Act 2 is so boring, I cannot force myselft to push through.
