I recently got into the TCG physical and kinda felt like reconnecting with Pokemon after shitting on it non stop since ORAS (and SwSh and SV kinda proving me right)

Why do people keep eating up slop?
Saw the leaks and this game genuinely looks fucking terrible. Artstyle is horrendous, map layout is boring, the actual designs of megas and such are quite possibly some of the worst for the series. How the fuck do people keep rating these games highly?

Legends Arceus is actually really cool. Like you, I’ve been on a long hiatus from the series after I stopped playing after X and Y. Legends Arceus is actually the most “alive” feeling I’ve ever gotten from Pokemon. I’m playing through it right now and it’s cool. You can actually sneak up to pokemon and catch them without initiating combat. And Pokemon can target you, the trainer, with attacks. I would wait for it to go on sale and then try it. Structurally, yes. Most games have the bare minimum requirements to be "fun" (objectives, story, a map, over 10 hours of gameplay). They all have the basics like graphics that work, because they're all written in UE5. That sounds like a low bar, but many games 20 years ago did not have these things. Games were also not a cornerstone of life like they are now, with young kids having social contact and learning exclusively via video games. They were also not a replacement for the movie industry like they are now.

I'm ashamed at the video game community for this. If a critic gives a good review to a bad game, that critic should lose their credibility. Why would people still trust the same critic after they gave a shit game an 80%? Why should we trust the critic when they are giving the new games an 80% again? If we lived in a just world, the critics would be fired for giving a bad review, (taking bribes, or rather however, afraid of the intimidation).

When you all buy this game you should remember this game is NOT an indie game. An indie game is a game developed with a small budget and small resources. Pokemon is the largest media franchise in the world, and their video games are technically the heart and soul of their franchise even if they generate most of their money in other ways. This is a HIGH BUDGET game. It SHOULD NOT play like a low budget video game. Lol.

nta but honestly SV's overworld isn't event that bad compared to some of the genuine snoozefests that've come out of the wretched trend BOTW started. There's some areas where you can tell they spent some effort making the layouts memorable and fun to travers (badlands East of Mesagoza, cave systems under Alfornada and Glaseado Mountain, obsidian spires, cliffs, and bamboo forests in the northeast where the Fighting girl is, mining region where Orthworm is, Area Zero) and I was actually looking out for Gimmighoul and new Pokemon while I was exploring, too, giving me reason to not just blitz past the plains and ignore shit. The world design is absolutely not pertfect or even particularly great (the shittiness of cities and complete lack of quests or secondary objectives REALLY make sure of that), but for what it was it was passable as hell and probably would've have been ragged on so hard if it wasn't so goddamn ugly and ran like shit.

I always hated the "Video game scores=School scores" argument precisely because of this. It would make anything below a 7 bad, when a 6 tends to be a more niche title that won't appeal to everyone, and 5 is a perfectly average game. 4 still falls into the average range but has more faults, so it's technically a below average, then the bottom 3 feel like more than enough to capture the truly awful games. Though it's debatable if you add a 0 to the scoring or use 1 for a game that's practically unplayable.

N64 games did not run well FPS wise, but they still ran better overall and than UE5 slop. No stutters, fast loading times. Modern games can only dream about reaching PS2 levels of smoothness.

On the contrary, the comparison makes a lot of sense as we are conditioned for our entire childhood and formative years to believe on a 0-100 scale than anything below 60 is an outright failure, meaning that 60 is the minimum threshold.
We live our lives judged on a 40-point scale dressed as a 100-point scale.
