Also, how would this require the blockchain and not, say, simply the compatibility work by itself? The blockchain wouldn't enable it, they would still have to add these features by themselves. Why not use, say, Steam Inventory or another similar centralized ledger, which would have faster transactions, less energy costs and a dedicated, already present infrastructure?

One, the math doesn't math. Nobody is going to buy something you get by playing, so it has no monetary value and functions no different from other in game currencies.
Two, companies aren't going to implement things from competitors games that will eat up their customers' attention.
Three, you are never going to balance the economies of multiple games that use the same resource.
Four, game monetization is bad enough as it is. We don't need fucking nfts in games especially when even the biggest proponents can't make a game without cutting and running.

Beneath all the wordswordswords he’s saying with a blockchain you can get items in one game that are usable in another, but that could really only be a thing if they’re made by the same company, and even then there’d be ways to do this without blockchain. Look at Valve, Counter-Strike skins are basically NFTs but not NFTs already.

But even ignoring that this all runs on the assumption that I’m both able and willing to regularly play all of this company’s games. The whole story starts with a match-3 mobile game, something I do not want to play. Am I doing it for the ore? I already spend most of my time doing shit I don’t like in exchange for stuff, that’s how jobs work. I don’t want it in my video game time. The other fake games sound like they’re all MMOs, a genre that even if I liked is famously demanding of people’s time. How about you innovate a way that would give me enough free time to play different three MMOs every day before the blockchain shit?

I mean if you have to tard wrangle 40 people through a 2-3 hour MMORPG raid for a 5% chance to get a specific item, you'll quickly find it pretty rare too. Not that we have any idea about the specifics because this is all make believe bullshit.

To be clear, I'm not defending AI. The question was why people aren't as critical of it as they were NFTs, and it's because NFTs are completely, totally, and utterly fucking pointless. AI has some point, even if the point itself is bad.

One way or another people clearly do find image gen and ChatGPT useful. They aren't willing to pay trillions for it like AI companies are trying to insist to their investors, but there are uses.
NFTs are so completely worthless the developers need to flat out lie in comical and absurd ways to make it sound even remotely useful, like with the "use stuff from games in other games" argument which doesn't even connect with what blockchain does. It was so absurd.

Calling it AI at all is such an obviously bullshit thing. AI isn't intelligent. It can't make conclusions. LLMs are just autocomplete on steroids. All they do is replicate patterns, and unfortunately the more people use it, the dumber people get, so we, as a collective society, are spending all of our effort in racing to the bottom as fast as we can, even at the cost of our fucking drinking water, and our "replacement" is dumber than we ever were.

Because doing ANYTHING with cryptocurrency or the blockchain costs money. Anything. Tard actually thought gamers would say "Dude, I'm totally cool with spending $5 to update my stats after every single encounter and $5 to update my inventory every time I get or sell off items."
This is the biggest problem with using crypto for anything but an investment. It costs just to move it to another account. It costs to buy things with it, it costs to sell it. Using crypto for day to day transactions is just throwing your money away. As a medium for storage and transmission of changeable data, like for a game, it's the worst possible solution.

This is retarded on every level.

Why would blockchain need to be involved in linking games together? Why would developers want to desensitize playing their game by pairing progress with other games? In what world does grinding two years to master blacksmithing sound fun? Why would players want their games to be linked across genres that force them to play games that wouldn't appeal to them to progress in games that do? Why has it been so long since this man touched grass that he can't even describe what it looks like in theory?
