It's not 2013 anymore, it's 2025. Most people have good rigs and even PS4 support for FF14 is ending soon (it's officially ending when 8.0 drops) so the console parity argument doesn't work anymore. PS5 is still a pretty good console spec wise, FF16 can run on it for example. Are you blind? They did such an awful, incomplete job that the devs are still forced to give away fantasias every patch. Tons of races released with glitches and unique traits made more generic because SE didn't have the time to focus on the details and differences between their limited character creation menu choices. Do you even remember their first reveal of the graphics update in the benchmark? They announced it at an event 24+hrs before it went live, and the benchmark was so fucked that Yoshida had to apologize, fix & re-release a benchmark a month later while in the middle of preparing for a brand new expansion release. As an example, look at lips on a lot of races from 6.55 to 7.0 to 7.2. Lips were finally further updated in 7.2. Before 7.2, the different character create options for lips had much less variations in size and shape, because SE is lazy as fuck. In 7.2, they finally adjusted the options to be different from each other.

Do you really think SE would be giving away free money every patch if they did a great job? It's so they can avoid backlash for their mistakes and this shitshow of a graphics update. And yeah, where the fuck is the body update?? There's literally a seam on character stomachs built into the default game, and it looks awful.

Every single problem that people bitch about like the terrible net code, the outdated glamour system, the lack of cross data center DF/PF, those and other things are all excused by le technical debt, and Yoshi-P will keep telling us to please understand instead of fixing and changing things.

Nah questing is fucking retarded in XIV. WoW felt much better at letting me actually play a video game and use my character. XIV feels like a chore where you spend hundreds upon hundreds of hours in dialogue, teleporting around, fetching stupid shit, delivering messages, and watching cutscenes. When you finally get to do a kill quest after an hour of play time, it's like "kill 3 mobs" and then you're back to bullshit. A lot of the solo instanced quests are gimmick shit where you control a character who isn't you or a mech or some shit. Dungeons scale you, but instead of scaling just your damage like any sane normal game would do they also prune your abilities as well. Deep dungeons like palace you also don't play your fucking character, but at least that's a somewhat fun minigame. PvP you get an entirely new set of abilities that are all extremely janky and horrifically balanced.
I never feel like I'm actually playing my character in XIV outside of max level end game content and it sucks.

What's the best way to find a decent FC in this game? There's never going to be a "next one" because there's no reason to make another, for the same reasons Blizzard has never made a WoW successor. MMORPGs are a dying genre, they have been for years, and the cost to get one off the ground compiled with the time it takes to start turning a profit wouldn't fucking fly with today's shareholders.

If we do get another FF MMO it's going to be f2p gacha slop, because that's the only form of new MMO that's successful today.
