I'm almost done with the game. I've enjoyed it, it's pretty basic. Lethal difficulty was too much for me so I went down to hard.

Beautiful looking game, some great art direction. I've probably spent several hours just messing around taking screenshots using the photo mode.
One thing I really like is the loading is literally instantaneous. You can fast travel anywhere on the map and when I say it's instantaneous, I mean it. You click where you want to go and 1 second you're there, no loading screen or anything, that's honestly the most impressive part of the game for me.

It's kind of better than the first game in a lot of ways. There's also a nice tribute to Jin near the end of the game where you can find that he hid in Hokkaido after he left Tsushima and lived out his life there, you can get his sword and visit his grave

The female protagonist doesn't bother me at all, because I'm not insecure nor do I care about that kind of thing anyways. I've enjoyed the game a lot, story has some minor gripes but overall it has been good. The game's puzzles are the weak part, they're not very good and there's one section in the game with a lot of these really stupidly simple puzzles that don't make you think at all that I don't know what they were thinking.

overall much like the original it's a solid 8/10, maybe a little bit higher since I do think there's some improvements over the original and the art direction and design really carries this game hard. Thanks for reading my review, now go and attack me those of you that didn't play the game.

I generally agree. I like it a bit more. I love how they put in just enough side stuff and activities. Theres only a few of each thing in every region so you dont have to collect a billion things like in other open world games. And the areas srent pointlessly huge. Also, the game has quite a lot of customization for the character. There's only 12 or so different armor sets, but there's like 60+ different headgears / masks you can wear, and multiple color options for each piece of armor and a lot of the hats and whatnot. You can also customize your weapons with dozens of different color schemes.

There's lots of stuff for combat too, sword, double katanas, greatsword katana, spear / yuri, the ball and chain thing, plus tons of throwable stuff smoke bombs, pocket sand, kunai, firebombs, flash bombs, a pistol and musket, two types of bows with different arrows. Quite a lot of stuff, the thing is the combat is pretty basic and simplistic still to the point you don't really need to use much of any of that stuff, ever and honestly I rarely have so far except in the harder boss fights.

yeah, the game is still pretty large but it doesn't feel as large as the first game felt but the areas are better designed and with their own visual theme which sets each region apart from the others. There's not a checklist of stuff to do either, and none of the stuff feels tedious. The game is still very basic and simplistic though, which is fine but the platforming for the shrines for example is just very simplistic and you never really fail at anything.

WokeGOD here, while it is fun to shit on chuds, I'd say this game is very distinctly in the "Hates both sides" territory, like Hogwarts Legacy was.

They fired that writer for making fun of Kirk's acking and me and all my wokeGOD friends said we weren't gonna buy it as a result.

I guess. I was surprised they didn't change the platforming at all from the first game. It got the job done, but its not really fun. The fox puzzles are nest the first time, but they do get old fast. And yea i k ow the part where you had to do a ton of them, that was kinda too much. The combat feels harder than the first one. And when you're surrounded by guys of all different classes, it can absolutely be overwhelming trying to take care of all of them. So i dont think the combat is simplistic, and if it is, it feels way too good for me to care. The core of the game to me is the combat and exploring the world and discovering little nooks and cool views. And on those fronts, i think it's amazing. The combat keeps deepening as thr game goes on and you unlock more weapons and skills, and the areas keep unlocking as well. So progression feels great

Didn't even know this had come out already. Loved the first game. Decent gameplay, but incredibly comfy. One of the comfiest games I've ever played. Usually I wouldn't touch an Assassin Creed like game with a tent pole, but that one was the exception, just for the pleasure of riding around and the setting. But I really have zero interest in this one. Even if it didn't have a they/them dyke main character, the idea of doing the same again from zero just seems incredibly tedious. I spent like 100 hours with Tsushima getting every little shitty trinket in the map. It was a joy, but that was enough. Unless they massively improved the gameplay or it has a story for the ages this time, both things which I doubt, I have zero interest in this.

It's not just raw sales that matter, it's the gap between them and what could/ should have been. Like, yeah, I think the Minecraft movie made a profit, but they left hundreds of millions of dollars on the table by choosing to make a lazy and forgettable slop movie instead of something worthwhile.

These are 2 different points conflated. Just because they have to pay their developers doesn't have influence on how many developers, how much time, and what they do. With assets flips, you don't need to redo all the work you did on the first game. It's significantly less and is done for such reasons (cost cutting).

If the development cost is 60 million, and the marketing cost is 60 million, then the stores take a 30% cut, the taxes take their 20%+ cut, and we will just ignore trying to speculate on any possible interest for loans, then the game must gross 3-4 times its DEVELOPMENT cost to make a profit. It must gross 2-2.5 times its total development and marketing cost to make a profit. Now, I get it, everyone just lumps development and marketing together, because they are effectively one and the same, and separating them is only relevant for internal company book keeping to determine which department they need to axe, restructure, or downsize. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Female protag wasn't the problem, a female protag that isn't a supermodel wasn't the problem.
The problem is they modeled and voiced her using an unlovable obnoxious turbodyke and people were always going to transfer their opinion of her to the protagonist.
Mechanics and world are generally just as good and in some instances better than Tsushima, the problem comes from two things. First of all the world is empty. They made it larger but it's the same amount of weapon skins and armor sets as Tsushima and significantly less horse customization. The void is filled with skill points which is the worst thing you can do to a world because it's boring, there's nothing unique or exciting abut skill point +1. But the biggest problem was that the game was female-coded. First Horizon games was ok, there was very little of that "girl power" bullshit there, pretty much just the hunting guild sidequest. But in this game it's everywhere. It's a female learning how to make bombs from a female bomb maker to go to mother mountain to the mother shrine to get mother charm from under the mother and daughter tree with the help of her female wolf and her female friend, stopping buy to buy a bow from a female bowyer and it's excessive. That's the biggest problem of the game. They couldn't just let it be organic storytelling. It HAD TO all be just female female female. Fuck off.
