Zoomers are not happy with Super Mario Bros 3.

It is honestly pretty mid. The levels are frustrating and forgettable with a complete lack of flow, minigames and cutscenes are excessive and time-wasting, and the physics are the most slippery they've ever felt.

SMB1 > Luigi U > Lost Levels > SMW > NSMBDS > SMB3 > NSMBWii > NSMBU > NSMB2

lol zoomers hating smb3 is one of the great tropes of their generation. They usually claim to enjoy smw too which is just baffling but honestly adds to their dissonant charm. Truthfully, I doubt that anyone born after 1994 is beating NES games.

SMW is easier, and has less autoscrollers. Yoshi's Island is the true peak of the 2D Mario games though.
Anonymous No.723285814 [Report] >>723285945
World with the powerups and stage select mechanics of 3 would be peak.

How would you describe why this game is good? Nintendo hasn't figured it out for thirty years.

Wooly world comes close but I don’t even think you can do gameplay like this on modern setups with laggy inputs and such

3 and world's structure are entirely different and you can't just drop one's levels in the other
3 is designed to be played in one shot with no continues. it's an arcade game, a speedgame really
world is all about exploration and the nested layers of secret levels

The level designs are nonsensical, unmemorable, and have zero flow.

what game did they fucking play it controls great (aside from ice world)

I was alive when it was released. Played the shit out of it when it was released. There are countless sites where I could go to download the ROM and emulate it, and yet I don't. I replay Serious Sam, FEAR, and Rune Factory 3.

Which is why World not having the inventory system, hammer bro encounters, airship levels, etc. from 3 is fucking wild.

Pipe maze and the ice zone filtered me as a kid, specially that level that soft locks you if you don't have the flying feather.

World's item mistake is relying on Secret Area. The rest that you listed is a gimmick or setting-specific before the Mario games decided to endlessly recycle content.

Explains why I only saw the ending in the GBA version then, got rid of my SNES years ago. What, did Nintendo assume that kids had an unlimited amount of play and didn't have to take turns?

I agree. Multiple paths suddenly make sense when one is blocked by a tough hammer bros fight or something similarly challenging.

First, it's presentation is exceptional. It is the best looking SNES game, no question. The sound track is awesome too.

Then, the gameplay is super tight. Movement is great, and the difficulty is calibrated to be on par with other 2D Mario games. There are plenty of secrets to find, but unlike say Wooly World, YI is still a "get to the goal" game first, just with extra stuff to find. The bosses are extremely memorable, and all in all, the game is just fun as hell.

The reason Nintendo has never followed up with a properly good sequel is because Yoshi's Island was made by Nintendo's A-Team, and every other game was treated as a spinoff and either given to a third party or the b-team, except for Yoshi's Story which was dumbed down for reasons unknown.

The only real attempt at a proper sequel was the DS version by Artoon, and you can just tell that they don't have the ability that Nintendo EAD had. It gets handicapped by bad level design, though I did enjoy it overall.
