Japan were never terribly strong writers. Even in Japanese a lot of the dialogue sounds stilted like this.
Don't get me wrong, they're usually fantastic storytellers but the way they express it is mostly in weirdly phrased cliches. You can even see this in old Japanese literature.
While troonslators are absolutely responsible for a lot of the woke crap (not all of it, mind you), the clunkieness of Japanese writing is always weird.
