From what I remember seeing, they built the combat/gameplay side of the game early on and dealt with the cinematics last. So, maybe they focus on enemy designs early to help with combat encounter design which are also early.

This isn't always the case as other game developers will focus on building out the story and cinematics first, since those can take a lot of time to complete and are hard to change later. Then they build the gameplay around that which is easy to fiddle with until launch.

But it's been 18 months since the game launched on PS5. I think they're way past the conceptual stage of development for the sequel. They're probably close to having a playable alpha of the entire game at this point if they're aiming for a late 2027 release.

They have a good base to build a sequel off of and were pretty transparent about the story and characters being second-rate, so hopefully they can make a more engaging plot this time around. But dear god add some suggestive looking grapple and pinning attacks to the enemies. I was fine with none of the NPCs acknowledging, let alone lusting after EVE's body, but the mutant freaks and brutes not having a SINGLE pin or bearhug grab animation felt baffling.

The first sin was the very controversial "censorship" debacle at launch. No, we do not have to discuss why it happened and if snoy was behind it or not for millionth time, it did happen and even if they later added sexy outfit it's still fucking happed. Because of that the game and the devs lost tremendous credibility and trying to discuss this game was(is) literally impossible.

The second sin was the actual game being mediocre as fuck. The action and gameplay is good but it doesn't matter if you spend most of your time running from A to B in vast empty wastelands doing a billion shitty side/fetch quests.

The third sin is the story being painfully mediocre. They are the Nikke devs, they can write good stories if they really want but they fucking dropped the ball hard.

I cannot believe I actually bought this crap twice just to "support" this supposed movement that amounted to fuckall.

1. Weapons, probably the same sword but transforms into different shapes. I like the sword but you really feel the lack of variety on replays. And with quick anf fluid switching.
2. General QoL. Being able to fast travel from anywhere without a phonebooth, in fact give Eve a cell phone so she can accept and complete quests anywhere. Money is kinda pointless in the game, so make every consumable and bullet type replenish automatically when resting.
