The N64 port of RE2 had a shitload of concessions. All of the audio was downsampled to hell and back, a huge amount of the FMV was cut (and the remaining was crushed into a blurry mess), and the backgrounds looked like complete dogshit. Its also missing the Extreme Battle minigame.

They didn't perform any miracles with the N64 port of RE2. There was no ingenious skill or expertise. They just hugely downgraded the quality of the game's assets so it would fit and it absolutely shows that's what they did.

Ironically, that 300GB game was FAR more asset compression without loss of quality going on than RE2 on N64 does.

This is actually a lie, since they cut the Ada version of the 'Talk to Annette and see the kickass HUNK scene' CGI. It's a tiny difference (Ada's voice asking Annette a question instead of Claire's voice), but the original game had a unique cinematic for it since they were on two discs.

And the RE2 N64 cart is still, I think, the most expensive N64 cart ever made because they had to put more memory on the PCB.
